Another object is to provide a spring of this character with means for reliably retaining a mattress thereon andholding it against slipping side-wise.

The springs 1 are arranged alternately with the base of one extending upwardly and that of the next downwardly as shown in Fig. 2 to adapt them to be arranged in close proximity and a greater number to be employed than could be if otherwise arranged thus stiffening the edges. If desired, these springs 1 and 1 may be made of heavy wire so that they will not readily yield to pressure and thus will hold the side edges vof the bed normally flush with the body portion though pressure be exerted thereon.
