JOSEPH WILKS, OF TRENTON, NEW JERSEY.
n IMPROVEMENT IN STAlR-RODS.
Specification, forming part of Letters Patent No. 116,249, dated June 20, 1871.
' erence being had to the accompanying drawing which forms a part of these specifications and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
Figure l is a front view, with rod in position. Fig. 2 is a View of the rod in the slots, with the slide-plate removed. Fig. 3 is a front View of the clasp. Fig. 4 is a bisection of the same. Fig. 5 is a bisection of the slide. Fig. 6 is an inner or rear view of the same.
Similar letters of reference, where they occur, denote like parts in the drawing.
lhis invention consists of a stair-rod fastenin g, having a clasp and slide, which holds the rod securely in position, preventing all lateral motion, and thereby preserving the rod from being scratched or injured by friction, and can be made of metallic or other substance.
To enable others to make use of my invention I will describe the same.
A is the stair-rod, which is held in the clasps B B by means of the slides G C, and resting in the slot D. The grooves E E in the slide O (formed by the attachment of the plate F by means of the rivets G G) fitting over the slots H H H H hold the rod securely, and prevents any lateral or upward motion. The clasp B is fastened to the stair by means of the screws a a.
By this invention stair-rods are preserved from injury by scratching, are fastened more securely, and can be more easily removed or placed than by any other invention now in use.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The clasp B, slide O, having the slots D and H H H H and the grooves E E, when arranged, constructed, and combined substantially as herein shown and described, for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof' I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
