CYRUS M. WALKER, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
DROP-SEAT v UNDERGARMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 9, 11915.
Application filed January 2, 1915. Serial No. 32.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CYRUS M. WALKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drop-Seat Undergarments; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to drop-seatundergarments, and has for its principal object to provide a device of this kind wherein the bifurcated portion contains an elastic section for imparting, freedomof movement to a wearer and obviating strain on the garment that might tend to stretch the button holes or tear off the buttons. It is apparent that in addition to the advantages noted, the freedom of movement imparted by the elastic insert will provide a much more comfortable garment. In accomplishing this object I have provided the details of structure hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein the single figure shows a union garment containing my improvement in its preferred arrangement.
Referring more in detail to the drawing: 1 designates a union garment which may be of any ordinary construction and comprises a drop seat 2 having button holes 3 adapted" for receiving the buttons 4 on the body of the garment at the waist position to hold the seat in place. Extending diagonally across each leg of the garment, preferably forming a point adjacent the waist band portion 5, to the crotch is an elastic band 6, which may be inserted in the arment in any suitable manner but preferably by stitching the upper and lower sections of each leg portion to opposite edges of the insertion.
\Vhen a garment provided with my improvement is in use, with the drop-seat buttoned to the body of the garment, a wearer may have full freedom of movement, as each leg portion is made yieldable from the waist or seat part by reason of the insertion; it
being apparent that each leg portion has freedom of movement not only relative to the seat, but relative to the opposite leg member owing to the presence of the insertion in each of the leg parts.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is:
1. A garment comprising leg portions and a drop-seat of inelastic material, and an elastic member in the seat and opening through a free edge thereof.
