Be it known that LBENNO VOM EIGEN, a
citizen of the United vStates, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bag-Frames; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, .and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings, and to characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
rlhis invention has reference, generally, t0 that class of frame-sections which are used with bags, satchels, and the like; and, the present invention relates, more particularly, to a novel means for rigidly connectingthe ruiter-joints inthe corners of the main or central member and the leg-members of a one-piece bagframe'section.
The invention has for its principalobject to provide a novel and simply constructed as well as a neat and a cheap binding or connecting means, in the form of a strap adapted to be arranged across the miterjoints in the corners of the main or central member and the leg-members of the bagframe section, whereby the edge-portions ofV more particularly the tying or bindingV straps arranged acrosstheV miter-joints for the angle-portions of the respective members of the framesection. Fig. 3 is an enlarged view 0f one of the angle-portions of the connected members of the frame-section, said View showing, more particularly, one of the miter-joints with the tying or binding strap omitted from said'view; and Fig. 4; is a cross-section taken on line 4--4 in said Fig. 2, looking in the direction of the arrow w, said view also being made on an enlarged Y scale.

Referring now to the several figures of the drawings, the reference-character 1 indicates a lframe-section showing one embodiment of the principles of the present invention, the said frame-section comprising a main or central member 2 and `apair of legmembers'. Extending at right angles from onerofl the marginal edgesportions of the member 2 isa flange or projection 4f', and similarly extending at right angles from one of the marginal edge-portions of the -legmembers 3 are flanges or projections 5,

flanges or projections l and 5, in the manner represented in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 of the drawings.
As shown more particularly in Fig. 3 of the drawings, the end-portions of the main or central member 2 are provided nearthe miter-j oints 7 with suitably formed holes or perforations 8, preferably of rectangular configuration, as illustrated; and each legmember 3 is also provided at its end-portion near the miter-joint with a similarly formed hole or perforation 9.
Extending across each miter-joint is a tying or binding-strap 10, the upper surface of the body ofsaid strap being preferably rounded o", as at 11, and the flat face 12 of said strap having extending therefrom a pair of rivet-lugs or studs 13 and 14. These lugs or studs, in cross-section, are of the same conformation as the holes or perforations 8 and 9, and when the strap 10 is secured in place across a miter-joint 7, the stud or lug 13 is inserted in the hole or per- Fig. 5 is a side view of one of said foration 8, and the stud or lug 14 isA like- Wiser inserted .n the hole or perforation 9. By this means a simple and cheaply constructed device has been pro-vided :for readily and quickly uniting` the angular edgeeportions, of the main or central member 2 to the anupon an angular marginal end-portion of the main central member, said angular' Copies of this patent may be obtained for marginal end-portions forming a straight and uninterrupted miterej oint, the `said abutting end-portions of said main central member and said leg-memberV being provided withperforations, a flange extending at a right angle from said main central member,V 4a iiange extending ata right angle `from each leg-member, the flanges of sanlleg-` members being integrally connected With the flange of said main central member, and a narrow tie-strap extendingv diagonally across said miter-joint, stud-like rivet-posts extending from said tie-strap, said'posts being fitted into the said'perforations in the main central member and the respective legmembers and 'riveted flush -W'iththe exterior surface-portions of said main central member and said leg-members, so'as to entirely close up said perforations and provide' smooth and unobstructed outer surfacepor'- tions, substantially asfand'for the purposes set forth.
