SANITARY BARREL.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Aug. 17, 1915- Application filed January 32, I914. Serial No. 813,762.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUs'rAvn A. KRIEGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rockford, in the county of WVinnebago and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sanitary Barrels, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in sanitary barrel covers, designed especially for the protection of food products, and especially adapted for use by dealers in such articles, who usually sell certain goods from barrels.
Theobject of the invention is toexclude dust, dirt and germs from the contents of the barrel and at the same time permit easy and ready access to said contents, and if desired a portion of the cover may be transparent so that the contents of the barrel may be examined through said cover and without removing it.
The invention consists of the novel features of construction hereinafter described, pointed out in the claim and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a plan View. Fig. 2 is a section on the line 22 of. Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a similar section showing a modified construction.
In these drawings, 1 represents the barrel within the upper portion of which is inserted a wooden rim 2, the inner face of which is downwardly and inwardly beveled. A metal ring 3 fits upon the under face of the rim 2 and a metal ring 4 is sunk into the upper face of the rim 2 and is provided with a flange v5 which fits against and covers the inner face of the rim 2, said flange inclining downwardly and inwardly and projecting below the plane of the ring 3. A metal cover 6 is suitably flanged to fit into the opening formed by the ring 4 and flange 5, said cover being provided with a knob 7.
As shown in Fig. 3 the cover may consist of an exterior ring 8 beveled to fit the flange 5 and which ring carries a glass cover 9 se cured in place by means of pins 10 and provided with a knob 11. It will be therefore noted that the construction shown in Fig. 3 is practically obtained by simply cutting out the central portion of the cover 6 and inserting the glass 9 in said cut'out portion, the remainder of the construction being unchanged.
The rings 3 and 4: are secured in place by suitable bolts 12 which pass through the rings and through the wooden rim.
That I claimis The combination with a barrel, of a wooden rim adapted to fit therein, a ring arranged upon the underside of the rim, a flanged ring fitting upon the top of the rim, the flange of said ring overlapping and extending below the inner edge of the first mentioned ring,'a'nd a cover adapted to fit within said flange.
GUSTAVE A. KRIEGER.
