awe/"$07, Q, um b q u S h COLUMBIA FLANOOIAH GOUWAIHMTON' D- G I NTE I ROOF STRUCTURE FOR SILOS AND THE Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented auiyfe ieis.
Application filed June a, 1914. Se1'ia1 No. 842,601.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, OLIVER BRUMBAUGH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Louisville, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Roof Structures for Silos and the like; and Ido hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to roof structures for silos, and the like.
The object of my invention is to so construct my building that I will have a compact, neat and strong device that will give perfect ventilation to all parts of the same.
is shown in the drawings, and similar characters of reference refer to similar parts throughout the drawings, in which,
Figure 1, is a sectional elevation of my device in completed form. Fig. 2, is an exterior elevation of a section of my device. Fig. 3. is a section taken on the plane of the line 33 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a plan view of the joint between the roof members at the ridge, the ridge member being omitted.
In Fig. 1 of the drawings, 1 represents the walls of my device, 2 the roof, and 3 the flooring, said walls and flooring being constructed of hollow tile 1, as shown.
Upon the top edges of my walls I attach a cornice or roof support 16, said cornice being fastened by means of bolts or other suitable fastening devices through bolt per forations 17 in the top layer of hollow tile, or by other suitable fastening means, and said cornice having a longitudinally running inner gutter or drain 18 as shown in cross section in Fig. 1 of the drawings.
Running up from my cornice are my roof members 19 and 20, said roof members meeting at the top edges as at 21. Each of my roof sections 19 and 20 are built up from slabs having upturnedflanges 22, which are keyed together and reinforced thereby by means of channel seam caps 23, these caps having a top portion 24 and flange sections Copies of this patent may be obtained for 25 and 26, as plainly apparent from Fig. 4: of the drawings. This forms a perfect key for my roof sections and yet at thesame time allows of the run way for rain water to travel theredown between said'keys as at 27 in Fig. 2 of the drawings, said water be ing carried off through the gutters 18 pre viously mentioned, which run longitudinally through the cornice 1.6. I
My caps 23 are short of the ridge pole of the roof as at 28 in Figs. 1' and 4 of the drawings so that a vent aperture 29 is had at intervals in the top section of the roof thereby allowing the air to pass out from the'crib. A ridge member 30 covers the top edge of my roof sections, and these vents, as
I a protection against inclement weather, said A preferred embodiment of my invention member 30 comprising the crown piece 31:
Having described the preferred embodi- I ment of my'invention and 'onlybeing desirous of being limited by the scope of the 1 claim appended'hereto, what I claim as new is g A roof structure consisting of a plurallty of roof sections havlng upturned flanges, ad-
j acent sections being spaced apart,-channel' seam caps bridging the spaces between adj acent sections and flanges thereof, said seam' caps extending from the eaves to a point short of the ridge line, a ridge member covering the spaces between the ends of the seam caps, said ridge member being open at its ends whereby air is permitted to pass between the spaced adjacent roof sections, the ends of the seam caps and the open ends of the ridge member.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
OLIVER BRUMBAUGH.
