Description

T. N. FIGUERS, JR. GARMENT SUPPORTER.
- APPLICATION FILED DBO. 26, 1911.

lwvewto'a UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS n". rrsunas, .m., or COLUMBIA, 'riinnnssnn.
' GARMENT-SUPPORTER.
To all whom it mag/concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS N. Frounns, Jr., a citizen of the United States, residing at Columbia, in the county of Maury and State of Tennessee, have invented new and useful Improvements in Garment-Supporters, of which the following is a specification.
The general object of the invention is to prevent the sagging of hose, movement of the garter or hose supporter, and the creeping or blousing of the overshirt when the trousers are supported by a belt or its equivalent.
Other objects will appear and be better understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure. 1 is an elevation of the device shown in its applied position. Fig. 2 is a detail perspectlve of the preferred form of means for engaging the garter.
The main strap 5 may be of any desired length and formed of elastic or inelastic material. Preference, however, is given to a structure wherein the strap 5 is elastic.
6 indicates a slide for adjusting the length of the strap 5, and 7 indicates a hook at the upper end of the strap 5 and which is adapted to detachably connect with a cord 8 which may be elastic or inelastic as desired, and
which is provided at its opposite ends with clasps 99 adapted to engage opposite sides of the slit in the shirt 10.
a indicatesthe means for connecting the garter 11 and also the cord 12 which has the hose engaging clasps 13 at either end thereof, with the main strap 5. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2 this means may include hook sections 14 and 15 pivotally connected together as at 16, and adapted to embrace the garter 11. The flexibility of the connection a, owing to the pivot 16, enables the connec- Serial No. 667,713.
is bent at the knee and thereby prevents the leg from being bruised, which, if the connection were rigid, would be caused by the clamping action produced on the opposite ends of the connection upon the bending of the leg at the knee.
WVith the preferred form of connection as previously described, the hose can be dis connected from the strap by simply detaching the cord 12 from the lower hook 15. So also may the garter be readily detached by bending it so as to disengage from the hooks, in which event the hose with the garter and strap attached thereto may be removed from the leg without detaching the strap from the shirt.
Although I have shown and described one embodimentof the invention it is to .be understood that I am not to be limited to the specific arrangement and construction .of parts since various changes may be made, within the scope of the appended claim Specification of Letters Patent. tion to bend with the garter 11 when the leg" without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention. What I claim as new is: In a garment supporter, the combination with an elastic strap having a shirt engaging fastener at one end thereof and a hose engaging fastener; of a garter-engaging ele-
