HENRY P. LAUER vAND HENRY C. REIUHARD, OE POTTSVILLE,q PENN- SYLVANIA.-
Letters PatentNo. 102,837,1Zated May 10, 1870.
MMF-' IMPROVEMENT IN' VEGETABLE-CUTTER.
The Schedule` referred to iin-these Letters Patent and making part of the same To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that weHnNnY P. LAUER and HENRY C. REIOHARD, of Pottsville, in the county of Schuylkill and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and improved Vegetable-Gutter; and we do hereby declare that the following is a, full, clear, and exact description thereof', which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings forming part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements iu vegetablecutters; and consists in an arrangement in a case re'- sembling in form'an inverted truncated hollow cone, of a vertical hollow cylindrical cutter-carrier as large as the interior'of the shell at the bottom, and having two or morewide vertical slots, in which are hinged vertical gauges to regulate the thickness ot' the slices to be out, by cutters attached to the walls of the slots opposite where the gauges are hinged.
The top of this cylinder is geared with a hand-crank for revolving it, and the vegetables are placed in the 4space .between the-shell and the cylinder; the eut pieces are forced to the interior of the cylinder and drop ont below.
The hinged gauges are provided with adjusting apparatus for varying the openings, for cutting thicker' or thinner slices.- The said apparatus is manipulated by a thumb-screw at the top of the cylinders.
Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of our-improved vegetable-cutter; and
Figure 2 is a horizontal section of the same. Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. A.,
A is the hollow inverted truncated shell or hopper,
C is the hollow cylindrical cutter and gauge-carrier. It is mounted vertically at the axis of the case, and
rests, at the bottom, on aiiauge, D, of the shell.
The upper end is supported in bearings formed by the top of the case, and has a bevelwheel, E, which gears with a driving-wheeLF, on the horizontal handcrank G.
This cylinder has' broad and long vertical slots 'in the sides, in which are hung the curved gauges H, on the pivots I, so as .to swing out of or into the slots Vto open passages from the exterior of the cylinder tothe interior, of greater or less width.
For operating these guides, they are connected by jointed links, K, to the oblique rods. L, suspended from-a cross-head, M, swiveled to the screw-rod N, working up and down through the head of thecylinder C, and swinging the said guides back and fort-hl as it is raised or lowered.
The cutters M are attached to the walls of the slots through the cylinder, opposite where the gauges are hinged, and, being turned against the vegetables placed in vthe shell A, around the cylinder (l, cut them-iu slices and force the slices through the passages.
- O is a stop, to prevent the vegetables being forced around-with the cylinder'. A,
'lhe slices cut o are forced through the openings between the edges of the gauges and the walls of the slots, into the space within the cylinder, from which they drop down below, into any suitable receptacle.
Having thus described our invention,
We claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl 1. The combination oi' the shell A, slotted. cylinder C, gauges H, and cutters M, constructed and arranged substantially as speciied.
2. The combination, with the gauges H `and links K, of the oblique arms L, cross-head M, and screw N, all arranged substantially as specified.
H. P. LAUER. H. C. REIOHARD. Witnesses:
