To all whom it may concern: a Be it known that I, BYRON J. SPENCER, a citiien of the United States, residing at Fort Stevens, in the county of Clatsop and State 'of Oregon,-have invented certain new and 'useful'Improvements in Vess'eLRaising Devices; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. This invention relates to vessels and more particularly to means for raising. sunkenvessels. v r An object of the invention'is to provide means to be carried upon the vessel to readily facilitate raising the latter should it sink. I l Another object is to provide .cables and means for connecting thecables to the frame of the vessels so that the latter may be readily raised to the surface of the water by the usual hoisting means now employed for raising sunken vessels, and, another object is to provide means to which the ends of the cable may be readily connected, said cable and connecting means servingfor attaching the hoisting hooks to readily raise the vessel. Other objects and advantages will be hereinafter'set forth and pointed out in the specification and clai In the accompanying drawings which are made a part of this .applicatijon'yFigure 1 is a longitudinal view of a vessel to which is secured my raising means, the hull of the boat being shown in section. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view on" the line 22 of Fig. 1, and, Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary detail view .-on the line 33 of Fig.2.' L
Referring to the drawings in which similar reference numerals designate corresponding partsthroughout the several views, 1 represents the ribs'or framework of a boat, which have a hull 2 secured thereto "in the usual manner. Passing through the ribsl such length that the rounded portion 5 con- Specification' of Letters Patent.

necting the le'gs 3 project for some distance from the ribs 1 to allow a cable 6 to'be passed therethrough. The U-shaped bolts are passed through the ribs 1 at suitable spaced distances and the cable 6 is passed therethrough, said cable extending from cured'through the braces of the cabin-or cabins of a boat and secured in a manner similar to the first mentioned U-shaped bolts. The cables 8 have their outer ends secured'through upperrings 9 and connect ed to the rings 7 and 9 are the horizontally extending cables. 10 and 11, which pass around the cabin or cabins, or through the same, as may be desired, it being-understood that opposite ends of these horizontally extendingcables 10 and ,11,"respectively,'are secured within the. rings 7 and 9. 5 Itwill be understood that the U-shaped bolts may be passed through any of the ribs and supportsdesired to place the rin 7 and 9 at the desired points. ,It will also be understood that any number of rings and cables may be employed.
It will be evldent that any boat carrying the-cableslfi, 8, 10 and 11 connected thereto in the manner. above described may be easily raised from the bottom of a stream or river .by the usual hoisting mechanism employed evident that this above described raising means may be connected with vessels already sunken to facilitate the raising of the same to the surface to be re aired and again put in use. Itwill also evident that as all of the parts are of extremely simple formation and the manner of conmeeting the arts with a vessel is also extremely simp e, the employment of the same will be very inexpensive.
"What I claim is: Asling for raising ships and the like comprising cables adapted to bedisposed against In testimony whereof I have signed my the frames of a ship, U-shaped anchorlng name to this specification in the presence of 'members having their ends extended two subscribing witnesses.
through said frames and impinging said BYRON J. SPENCER. 5 cables thereagainst, rings secured to the Witnesses:
free ends of said cables, and horizontally H. G. WOOD,
arranged cables secured to said rings. 1 A. B. WATSON.
