Description
J. J. & P. J. SHOOK.
BOX FASTENBR. APPLICATION FILED FEB. 9, 1911.
JOHN J. SHOOK AND PETER J. SHOCK, OE CHARLEROI, PENNSYLVANIA.
BOX-FASTENER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 26, 1912.
Application filed February 9, 1911. Serial No. 607,531.
lb all whom it may concern.
Be it known that we, J OHN J. SHOCK and PETER J. SHOCK, subjects of the King of Hungary, residing at Charleroi, in the county of Washington and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Box-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to box fasteners and has for its object to provide means in a manner as hereinafter set forth'for use in connection with a collapsible box for maintaining the elements of the latter, when set up, in a rigid position.
Further objects of the invention are to provide a box fastener which is comparatively simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, eflioient in its use, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
With the above and other objects in view, the invent-ion resides in a novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed.
Reference will now be had to the drawings herein Figure l is a perspective view of the box in an open position. Fig. 2 is an enlarged cross sectional view of a portion of a box, ind Fig. 3 is a bottom plan of a part of the The front wall 14 intermediate the ends thereof has the inner side provided with a vertical groove 17 and over this groove is mounted a plate 18, said groove and plate extending from the upper edge of the front wall to the lower edge thereof. The lower end of the groove 17 is adapted to register with a vertical groove 19 formed in the inner side of the rail 3, the groove 19 being covered by a plate 20 and the lower end of said groove communicating with a slot 21 anda recess 22 in the plate 1. The recess 22 has an angular extension 23 and in said recess is located a guide 24 for a slide pin 25 having an angular end 26 adapted to rest in the extension 23 of the recess. Easy access is had to the recess 22 from the bottom of the box and said recess is normally closed by a slidable and pivotally mounted plate 27 re tained in engagement with the plate 1 by a screw 28. The forward end of the plate 27 is adapted to extend into a depending staple 29, carried by the bottom of the plate 1 and the plate 27 is longitudinally slotted, as at 30 whereby the plate can be shifted out of the staple 29 and then swung to one side.
What we claim is A look for the lids of folding boxes, comprising a resilient strap depending from the lid of the box and extending downwardly through the front wall and into the bottom of the box, said strap having its lower end formed with an opening, a rotatable, longitudinally shiftable pin arranged in an angle shaped groove in the bottom of the box and having an angle-shaped end for engagement with the wall of the groove to arrest the movement of the pin, a guide for said pin, positioned at said groove, a longitudinal movable and pivotally connected plate inclosing said pin and connected to the lower face of the bottom of the box, said pin engageable in said opening for securing the lid of the box in position, and a staple carried by the bottom of the box for receiving the outer end of said plate.
In testimony whereof we aiiix our signatures in the presence of two witnesses. v
