A is the bell', with a globular socket formed in itsV crown.-
B is the clapper, with a ball, C, on its top end, so made as to loosely tit' the socket inthe crown of the bell.
The clapper is dropped down'from the top, and the ball rests in the socket, as seen in the drawing, forming a. universal `ioint, allowing the clapper to turn in any direction, and making a most perfect and durable connection.
D is the band or ferrule of the handle E.
This ferrule has an interior flange, F, which is made somewhat conical, so as to fit, or nearly itfthe top portion of the ball C.
The ferrnle also has an interior screw-thread, and the handle is` attached by screwing it onto the neck or crown ofthe bell, as seen in the drawing.
The advantages of this arrangement. over the ordidinary mode of attaching the clapper must be obvious to all.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new and desire to secure lby Letters Patent- Attaching the clapper to a bell by means of a ball and socket, substantially iu the manner herein'shown and described.
