I1VI'PROVED`MODE OF A'ITACHING- ASLEIG--H-BIEIIILS T0 STRAPS.
The Schedule referred -to :in these Letters Patent and making part of the same l', WILLIAM E. BARTON, of East Hampton, in the I county'ofMiddlesex aud State of Connecticut, have invented Improvements in Construct-ing and Attaching Sleigh-Bells, of which the following is a specification.
Nature and Objects of the I noeatzon.
' My invention consists, irst, in constructing the top ofthe bell withv lateral or radial angles or projections, which, while serving e'cctuallyto keep it from turning, will cause less injury to the strap than the lungi tudinal spurs or projections in common use.
My invention consists, second, in securing the bell upon itsfstrap by means of a screw passing through -and couutersunk in the said strap, a threaded aperture in the top of the bell to receive the said screw,
and project-ions of any suitable form upon the top of the bell to keep it from turning.
Description of the Accompanying Drazyoging.. a i* Figures 1 and 2 are perspective views of two bells, illustrating the iirst part of my invention.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of a bell and its attachments, illustrating the second part of my invention.
General Description.
1n order to provide for securing the bell from turning, without warring the surface of' the strap as much as devices for this purpose commonly do, I- cast the ybell B with a boss, C, upon its top, having lateral projections or angles, c, of the form represented in figs. 1 or 2, or any non-ci1cular` shapewhich will -be adapted to become imbedded in the strap sufficiently to secure the bell against turning withoutpuncturing or iucising the strap.
The boss C may be made of a concave or cup-shape, to afford a better hold on the strap.
In the top of the bell B is an aperture, b, in which l Y is tapped a thread, to receive a screw, D, which is passed through and countersunk in the strap A, a nl screwed into the said aperture b, a concave or 'ariug washer, E, being preferably interposed between the screw-head and the strap.
Claims.
I claim as my invention- 1. 'A bell, B, constructed with a flat boss, C, having lateral projections, c, adapted to secure the hell from rotation on its strap, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination of the screw D passed through and counter-sunk in the strap A, the bell B, having a threaded aperture, b, to receive the said screw and projections, to hold the bell from turning, as set forth.
NV. E. BARTON.
