To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, STANLEY OHALKO, a citizen of Russia, residing at New Britain, in the county of Hartford and State of Con necticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shade-Roller and Curtain Holders, of which the following is a specification. W

My invention relates to improvements in shade roller and curtain holders, and the objects of my improvements are simplicity and economy in construction and convenience and efficiency in use.

In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved shade roller and curtain holder, and part of a window casing. Fig. 2 is a similar fragmentary View showing a modified form of curtain rod. Fig. 3 is a front elevation on an enlarged scale of the left hand holder. Fig. 4 is a rear elevation of the same. Fig. 5 is an end elevation of the same. Fig. 6 is a sectional view on the line as w of Fig. 3 on an enlarged scale. Fig. 7 is a front view of the blank for the carriage plate. Fig. 8 is a side elevation of the left hand shade roller element before bending to the final form. Fig. 9 is a similar view of the right hand shade roller element. Fig. 10 is a perspective View of the locking nut.

My shade roller and curtain holder com prises a left hand member A and a right hand member B which are suitable for being supported on a window casing O and combine to support a shade roller D and a curtain rod E or curtain pole E in a manner to be described.

The members A and B comprise each a supporting element in the form of a body strap F and a moving element, in the form of a carriage member G. The body strap F comprises a horizon ally extending, elongated structure of sheet metal having a middle main body portion 19 in the form of a plate suitable for a support for the carriage member G, and the ends 21 adjacent the main portion 19 are bent at right angles thereto to provide clearance between the same and the casing C and a housing for certain parts of the carriage member G, and are finally bent outward to form supporting feet in the form of flanges 22, and which latter are provided with screw holes 23. The top edge 34 of the said main body portion or supporting plate 19 is horizontal and a slot 20, parallel with the said top edge 341, extends along the said main body portion 19 and at an appreciable distance from the said top edge 34,. A hole 30 is provided in the outer of the ends 21 of each of the sup porting members F which cooperates with the curtain pole holding member L in a manner to be described. The said carriage member G is a composite structure, comprising a shade-roller holding member K, a curtain rod or pole holding member L, and a carriage plate H which cooperates with a locking screw I and locking nut J, and the main body portion 19 of the supporting element F in supporting and positioning the said holding members.

The shade roller holding member K is made of sheet metal and comprises a body plate 32 and a shade roller supporting arm 15 attached thereto. The body plate 32 is an elongated rectangular plate, extending across the back of the supporting plate 19 and at right angles thereto, and has a central longitudinal slot 33 that extends across the slot 20 in the supporting plate 19.

The arm 15 is integral with the lateral edge of the body plate 32, at the upper end thereof. The arm 15 of the left hand member A is integral with the left hand edge of its body plate 32 and is provided with a slot 17 for receiving the left hand end of the shade roller D and the arm 15 of the right hand member B is correspondingly on the right hand edge of its body plate 32 and is provided with a hole 18 for receiving the right hand end thereof. The said arm 15 extends laterally to one side of the body plate 32 from its point of attachment therewithas shown in the sheet metal blank, and in the final position is bent at right angles to the said body plate 32, whereby, when the said body plate is positioned in abutment with the rear face of the supporting plate 19 the said arm will extend forward and in front of the same.

The curtain pole holding member L comrises a single piece of wire of a size suitable for being threaded through the hole 30 and bent to provide a forwardly directed arm 16 having a hook 37 at the forward free end, and a sliding portion 31 extending laterally and inwardly from the rear of the said arm 16, through the said hole 30, and having the inner end 38 secured to the carriage plate H. I prefer as shown to have the said inner end 38 bent to one side and engaged with a lug 25 on the said carriage plate H, to which the same is secured. The free arm of the hook 37 may enter directly into a hole in a curtain rod E, as shown in Fig. 1, or may serve as a stop to hold back a curtain pole E resting on the arm 16, as shown in Fig. 2.

The carriage plate H comprises a generally square plate of sheet metal having a pair of guide lugs 26 at the upper corners, the said lug 25 at the outer edge and a generally centrally located hole 24. The said guide lugs 26 are bent at right angles to the main portion and separated by a space 35 that fits the body plate 32 of the shade roller holding member'K and they are of length suitable for engaging with the top edge 34 of the supporting plate 19 and with'the said body plate 32 inclosed between the carriage plate H and the said supporting plate 19 and when the lugs 26 are engaged as described the hole 24 is in registration with the slots 20 and 33, which latter cross one another in the manner described. The hole 24 is square sided and fits the square shank 27 of the locking screw I adjacent the head 28 and the body 29 thereof fits the slots 20 and The locking or clamping nut J engages with the screw I, and, as shown, is a wing nut made of sheet metal.

In assembling my holder, the body plate 32 is brought into position at the rear of the supporting plate 19, the slots '20 and 33 crossing one another. Then the curtain holder L attached to the carriage plate H, is threaded through the hole 30, and the carriage plate H brought into position back of the body plate 32, the lugs 26 brought to bear on the top edge 34 of the supporting plate 19, and inclosing the body plate 32. The screw I is there inserted from the rear, passing through hole 24, slot 33 and slot 20, and the clamping nut J applied to the screw I from the front. A washer M may be interposed between the nut J and the supporting plate 19. Adjustment of lateral position of the carriage member G and vertical position of the shade roller holder K are obtained by changing the portions of the slots 20 and 33 that engage with the locking screw I.

Arranged as described the lugs 26 and the screw I cooperate at three triangularly disposed points, servingto guide the movements of the carriage plate H, and the curtain holder I attached thereto, laterally and also to guide the shade roller K vertically.

I claim as my invention 1. A shade roller comprising a body strap having a supporting plate provided with a slot, a shade roller having a body plate in abutment with the said supporting plate and an arm at right angles thereto, the said body plate also provided with a slot, a car riage plate, exterior to the said body plate and provided with a hole, a screw passing through the said hole and slots, and the said carriage plate provided with a pair of guide lugs in engagement with the said supporting plate and with the said body plate.

A curtain roller comprising a body strap having a supporting plate, and an end bent at right angles thereto and the said end provided with a hole, a moving element comprising a carriage plate having means for being secured to the said supporting plate at different positions laterally, a curtain holder in the form of a wire having an arm passing through the said hole, one end secured to the said moving element, and the other end provided with means for holding a curtain rod or pole.

3. A curtain holder comprising a body strap having a supporting plate, and an end bent at right angles thereto and the said end provided with a hole, a moving element comprising a carriage plate having means for being secured to the said supporting plate at different positions laterally, a curtain holder in the form of a wire having an arm passing through the said hole, one end secured to the said moving element, and the other end provided with means for holding a curtain pole or rod, and a shade roller holder constituting part of the said moving element, having means for holding a shade roller, and means permitting of adjustment of position at right angles to the line of travel of the said curtain holder.

A shade roller and curtain holder having a body strap and a moving member comprising a carriage mounted thereon having means for adjustment of the lateral position and comprising a curtain holder and a shade roller holder, and the said shade roller holder having means for vertical adjustment, and a carriage plate having means for guiding the said carriage and the said shade roller holder relatively to the said body strap in changing the position of adjustments thereof, comprising a pair of lugs and a hole for a clamping screw.

In a shade roller and curtain holder having a body strap and a moving member comprising a carriage provided with separate means of holding a shade roller and curtain rod and pole and a carriage plate serving as cooperative holding and guiding one another, a carriage plate comprising a plate having a pair of lugs bent at right anscrew passing through. the said hole and gles tcf the bgdy portion arildlengaged with slots and provided with a clamping nut. 1" one o the e ges of one 0 t e plates, and
