PRINTING MECHANISM.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GORDON DWYER THOMPSON, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Printing Mechanism, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to means for printing names or initials on linen or other fabrics for personal wear or household use, and its object is to provide a printing device which can be cheaply constructed and which may be easily manipulated.
In the accompanying drawing, is a side elevation and Fig. 2 is of this device.
This printing device comprises a relatively stationary frame which consists of a handle H, and two arms I and K. These arms are connected by a segmental toothed bar D having smooth portions 0 at each end. A movable handle E is pivoted to the frame at L, and has an arm C which is forked at B and has a cylinder A revoluble between its ends. This cylinder is formed intermediate its ends with teeth M which mesh with the teeth of bar D and with flattened portions N adapted to slide on the smooth portions 0 of the bar D.
An ink pad P of any desired construction is placed in the jaw F, while type R are placed in a groove in the cylinder A. A compression spring S normally holds the Figure 1 a plan vlew Specification of Letters Patent.

parts as shown in Fig. 1, with against the ink pad.
When it is desired to use this device, a piece of cloth is laid against the jaw G, and the handles are moved together by gripping them. The arm 0 will swing toward the arm K, and the cylinder A will roll along the toothed bar D, making one half turn and pressing the type against the fabric. As the fabric can be manipulated by one hand and this printing device by the other, the opera tions may be easily and quickly performed.
Having thus explained my construction, what I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In a printing device, the combination of a frame comprising a pair of arms, each having a flat jaw at its outer end, one of the jaws adapted to receive an ink pad, a toothed bar extending between the jaws, a handle connected to the inner ends of said arms, a movable member pivoted to said frame comprising a handle, a forked arm and a type carrier mounted in the end of the arm, said movable member formed with teeth intermediate its ends adapted to mesh with the teeth on said bar, and with a groove to receive type.
