' MORRIS L. RICH, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
COLLAR-FASTENER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 16, 1914.
Application filed August 4, 1911. Serial No. 642,242.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Mourns L. RICH, a citizen of the 'United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collar-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in collar fasteners, the object of the invention being to provide a collar fastener which is especially adapted for use at the back and in the neck band of the shirt to securely hold the collar at the back, and enable the collar to be readily attached and detached, and when attached will be held against any possibility of riding upward on the collar band.
A further object is to provide a collar fastener of this character which is composed r of a single piece of metal or other suitable material, and. which will be comfortable to the wearer, as well as efficacious in use.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, as will'be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1, is ,a view in elevation partly broken away illustrating the back of a collar secured to a neck band by means of my improved fastener. Fig.2, i a view in vertical section through the collar, fastener, and shirt, and Fig. 3, is a perspective view of my improved fastener.
.1, represents a shirt and 2 a neck band thereon, which is provided with the ordinary downwardly projecting outer fold 3, and this outer fold has the ordinary button hole 4.
5, is the ordinary turn-over collar, which is provided with the ordinary button hole 6 at the back.
My improved fastener comprises two integral parts, namely, a body portion 7, and a tongue 8. Body portion 7 is curved long'itudinally o asto conform to the shape of the neck band of the shirt when in use, and lie smoothly under the outer fold 3 and be hid thereby. The tongue portion 8,
which is integral with the body portion 7,
projects outwardly and downwardly from the center and lower edge of said body portion forming a ledge 9, and said tongue then curves sharply downwardly and outwardly asshown at 10. The tongue preferably reduces in width from its attached to its freeend, and flares outwardly and is rounded at its free end as shown at 11 to readily enter the button hole (i of the collar.
' In operation, the body portion 7 is interposed between the neck band and the over turned fold 3, and the tongue 8 is projected through the button hole 4'. When it is desired to'fasten' the collar 5, it is simply necessary to position the button hole 6 of the j vice will be comfortable to the wearer as it conforms to the shape ofthe collar band, and does not press against the neck of the wearer.
Various slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of parts described without departingfrom my invention, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise .details set forth, but consider myself at liberty 'to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A device adapted to be inserted in the rear collar button-hole of a two fold shirt band, comprising a laterally extending'relatively narrow body portion, and a collar attaching tongue projecting downwardly from the lower edge of the body portion, the lower edge of the body portion extending laterally in both directions from the base of the tongue to provide shoulderson which the device-may be turned in the shirt band pocket in the process of insertion, and the upper edge of said body pqrtion being per- In testimony whereof I have signed my pendicular to the longitudmal ax s of the name to this specification in the presence of button so as to bresent an elongated suptwo subscribing witnesses.
porting edge, which is adapted to lie adjav MORRIS L. RICH. 5 cent the fold in the shirt band, whereby Witnesses:
tilting of the button in the button-hole is R. H. KRENKEL,
