nniirnn sra'rns PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY o. AMUNDSON, or ALEXANDRIA, MINNESOTA.
DRAWER 'FoR FILING-CASES ANID SIMILAR STRUCTURES.
To all whom it may] concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY O. AMUNDSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Alexandria, in the county of Douglas and Stateof Minnesota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Drawers for Filing Cases and Similar Structures, of which the following is a specification.
My inventionrelatcs to improvelnents in drawers for filing cases and similar structures. Its object is to provide a light and serviceable drawer, simple and durable in construction.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved drawer; Fig. 2 is a perspective View in detail showing the construction of one end of the same and Figs.
3 and l are central sectional views in detail, taken respectively on a vertical and hori' zontal line through one end of the drawer.
Rein-ring to the accompanying drawings, I have used the letter. A to indicate the body (including the bottom and sides), and B to designate the ends or heads of the drawer.
The body A, which is preferably formed of sheet metal, is shaped to form the bottom 10 and sides 11. The edge of each side is folded and bent at right angles to the side to form a reinforcing rib 12. Each end of the bottom 10 and of the sides 11 is provided with an angular lug 13, comprising an inward projection 14 having a flange 15 thereon.
The ends T3 of the drawer are identical in construction and are applied to the body A in a similar manner; a description of one end will therefore answer for both. The end B, which is preferably formed of wood, is provided with a groove 16 formed in its lateral edges and base. These grooved edges receive the angular lugs 13 on the sides 11 and the grooved base receives the lug 13 on the bottom 10. Filling blocks 17 are inserted in the groove 16 and are secured therein.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed May 9, 1912. Serial No. 696,149.
these blocks may be Patented Mar. 3, 914.
These blocks retain the lugs in firmly unite the ends B of the' the body A. I blocks 17 in position by gluing the same to the ends B. It is evident, however, that secured by a'dove-tailed wedge or in any other convenient manner to said ends without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having described rny invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is.
1. In a drawer of theclass described, the combination of a body forminga bottom and sides, anangular lug on each edgeof said bottom and on each lateral edge of said sides,
osition and rawer with each lug consisting of an inward projection having a flange thereon, ends for said body rovided with grooves to receive said anguar lugs and filling blocks for said grooves inclosed therein by said lugs, said filling blocks being secured to the ends and adapted to abut against said flanges to retain said lugs in said ends and thereby unite said body and ends.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a drawer comprising heads formed grooves in the edges thereof, a body having flanged projections at itsends arran ed to rest in said grooves and filling blocks or the grooves, said blocks being secured to the ends with preferably fix saidfilling and adapted to abut against the flanges to retain said projections within the grooves to unite said body and heads, theedges of said blocks being incased by said body at the bottom and 'sides thereof.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
