Description
M. J. ORBILLY.
SILO AND ROOF CONNECTOR.
APPLIOATION FILED AUG. 11, 1913.

MARK JOSEPH OREILLY, F GIRARCD, KANSAS.
SILO AND ROOF CONNECTOR.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARK J. OREILLY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Girard, in the county of Crawford and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Silo and Roof Connectors, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to a silo roof support and has special reference to that type 'of silo roof supporters that efiiciently support the rafters of a silo roof and at the same time provide for the ventilation of the silo.
' parts as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a vertical section of the top portion of the silo with the improved roof support mounted thereon. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the improved roof support mounted on the silo. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the improved roof support. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the rod clamping means used with this invention. Fig. 5 is a vertical section of one of the securing plates.
Referring to the parts by reference numerals denotes an ordinary silo having mounted thereon a clamp member consisting of a bridge 11 and downwardly depending side members 12, said side members being provided with alin'ed openings 13. Passing through the almed openings 13 of the downwardly depending side 12 of the clamping member is a U-shaped clamp 14 having Specification of Letters lPatent.
Application filed August 11, 1913.
Patented Feb. 17, 1914. Serial No. 784,184.
I secured on its inner end a clamp plate 15. Be-
tween the curved end of the member 14 and the clamping plate 15 are top hoops 16 adapted to hold the silo in correct shape. This clamping member 14 can be adjusted to said hoop 16 by means of the nuts 17 threaded on the inner end of the member 14.
The threaded pin 18 having an eye 18 at its upper end has a rod 19 positioned therein. The plates 20 are provided with openings 21 having formed intermediate their length the pocket 22. Fitting in said pocket 22 of the plate 20 are the ends of the rod 19 and the plates are held on the rod 19 at one end by means of the head 23 and at the opposite end by means of the nut 24.
It will be seen from the foregoing description that this support for the rafters of the silo roof is very substantial and at the same time by means of the top hoo clamping means shown and described, the silo can be made air-tight. This top hoop clamping means may be operated independently of the rafter support. Itrwill also be seen that the support can be easily and quickly taken down and replaced.
It is obvious that minor changes may be made in the form and construction of this invention without departing from the spirit of the same. It is, therefore, not wished to confine the invention to the exact form herein shown and described but it is wished to include all such as come within the scope claimed.
VVhatis claimed, is:
In a silo the combination with a body, of a roof supported thereon comprising a plurality of diverging roof beams, a plurality of clamping plates secured to said roof beams near the outer ends thereof for allowing easy access thereto and being spaced from each other, said plates provided with bulged portions intermediate their ends, a tie-ro-l having its respective ends positioned within said bulged portions of said plates, binding nuts carried by the respective ends of said rod for firmly clamping the same in engagement with said plates, a substantially inverted U-shaped clamp fitting over the said U-shaped clamp in a set position upon upper end of said body, a pin extending at said body. 10 an angle from the upper end of said sub- In testimony whereof I hereunto afliX my stantially U-shaped clamp, said pin provided signature in presence of tWo Witnesses.
- With an eye for receiving said connecting MARK JOSEPH OREILLY.
bar, and means passing transversely through Witnesses: said substantially inverted U-shaped clamp J. J. GEORGE, and through said body for firmly holding A. F. LA FORGE.
