FRANK FERENC, OF KENMARE, NORTH DAKOTA.
TOOTH-BRUSH HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 10, 1914.
Application filed July 12, 1913. Serial No. 778,740.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that T, FRANK FnRENo, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kenniare, in the county of Ward and State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Tooth-Brush Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to an improved tooth brush holder and has for its primary object to provide a simply constructed device of this character whereby the brush will be completely housed or covered, thus maintaining the same in a thoroughly sanitary condition.
Another object of the invention resides in the provision of a holder of the above character embodying a body section and a cover therefor, said body section being provided with a base wall so constructed that when the cover is closed, the bristles are compressed so that the water will be expressed therefrom, said body at its opposite ends being provided with recesses or openings through which the water may be drained from the interior of the holder.
A still further object of the invention is to produce a device for the above purpose which may be manufactured and retailed at comparatively small cost, is strong and durable in construction, neat in appearance and highly serviceable and convenient in practical use.
With the above and other objects in view as will become apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain constructions, combinations and arrangements of the parts that I shall hereinafter fully describe and claim.
For a full understanding of the invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of a tooth brush holder showing the cover thereof raised or in its open position; Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the body of the holder; Fig. 3 is a transverse section, the lid or cover being closed; and Fig. 4: is an end elevation of the holder.
Referring in detail to the drawing 5 designates the body of my improved tooth brush holder and 6 designates the cover thereof which is hinged at one of its longitudinal edges upon one of the longitudinal body walls. The other edge of this cover is provided with suitable hooks 7 pivotally mountcd thereon for engagement in eyes 8 secured to the body 5. In the manufacture of my invention, the same may be constructed of sheet metal, such as aluminum, celluloid or any other desired material which may be found desirable and which may be readily kept in a thoroughly clean and sanitary condition.
The body 5 of the holder has one of its ends widened as indicated at 9, said body being hollow to provide a compartment 10 in its widened end for the reception of the bristles of the tooth brush indicated at T. The stem of the brush is adapted to repose in a longitudinal channel 11 in the narrow longitudinally extending portion of the body of the holder which is of U shape form in cross section. This channel of course communicates at its forward end with the bristle receiving chamber 10, and said chamber is provided with a longitudinally extending transversely inclined bottom. Upon the upper surface of this bottom wall, the bristles of the brush are adapted to rest. It will be noted from reference to Fig. 1 that when the brush is in position within the longitudinal body of the holder, the bristles project above the upper edge of the body portion thereof, thus it will be apparent that when the lid or cover is closed upon the body, the same will engage and compress the bristles of the brush, thus expressing the water which may remain therein from said bristles. The inclined bottom 12 drains this water into the lower portion of the chamber 10 from which it may flow longi tudinally through a recess 13 provided in the edge of the end wall of the chamber 10, or through the channel 11 and out through a similar recess 14f provided in the end wall of the longitudinal stem of said body member. Through these recesses, air may enter into the interior of the holder so that the moisture therein will be evaporated.
From the foregoing, it will be seen that I have produced a very simple and extremely convenient and serviceable holder for tooth brushes and the like whereby the bristles of the brush are completely housed and protected, thus maintaining the brush in a thoroughly sanitary condition. It is obvious that the device can be produced at small manufacturing cost. The same may be made in various shapes or of any desired size and can also be provided with suitable surface ornamentation thus rendering the same neat and attractive in appearance.
While I have described and shown the preferred construction and arrangement of the several parts, it will be obvious that the invention is susceptible of considerable modification therein within the scope of the appended claims without departing fromthe essential features or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof. I Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
1. A holder of the character described comprising a body having a longitudinally extending chamber to receive a brush, said chamber being provided with an inclined bottom wall upon which the bristles of the brush are adapted to rest, and a hinged cover for said body adapted to be closed thereon and compress the bristles of the brush to express the water therefrom.
2. A holder of the character described comprising a body of channel form widened at one end to receive the bristles of a brush, said widened end having a comparatively shallow portion, the opposite end walls of said body being provided in their edges with recesses to form drainage openings, and a hinged cover mounted upon said body adapted to compress the brush bristles against the opposite wall of said shallow 1 portion and express the water therefrom.
3. A holder of the character described comprising a hollow body, enlarged at one end to receive the bristles of a brush, said enlarged end of the body being provided with an inclined bottom wall upon which the brush bristles rest, said body being provided with drainage openings, and a hinged cover mounted upon said body and adapted to compress the brush bristles when closed thereon to express the water therefrom.
t. A holder of the character described in cluding a shallow brush receiving compartmen-t open upon one side to cause the ends of the brush bristles when the same is arranged in said compartment to project out wardly therefrom, and a cover for the open side of said compartment adapted to compress said bristles when the same is moved to its closed position and express the water therefrom.
' In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
