ISRAEL JOSEPH AND J. ALBERTIJOSEPH, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN SHOE-BRUSH ES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 160,104, dated February 23, 1875 application filed January 11, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, ISRAEL J OsEPH and J. ALBERT JOSEPH, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Combination Blacking Brush, of
which the following is a specification:
Figure l is a top view of our improved brush, the cover being removed. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same, taken through the line x x, Fig. l; and Fig. 3 is a cross-section of the same, taken through the line y y, Fig. l.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Our invention has for its object to furnish an improved brush which shall have combined with it a blacking-box, a brush for cleaning the shoes, and a brush for applying the blacking, and which shall be so formed as to completely and neatl y conceal said box and brushes when not required for use.
The invention consists in the box made with rounded side edges, and open at the top and one end, and the cover made with rounded sides and open at one end, in combination with the block or back of a shoe blackingbrush, and in the two small brushes having their backs and handles formed to fit upon each other and the blacking-box, and into the l box C, and which is made open at one end, so that it may be slipped upon the box O from its open end, the closed end of the cover D closing the Open end of said box C. E is a blacking-box, which is made of such a size as to t into the cavity of the box C, Where it is kept in place by the inward curvature of the sides of the box O. F is a brush, made with stiff' bristles, to adapt it for use for removing the dirt from the boots or shoes preparatory to blacking them. G is a brush, made with flexible bristles, to adapt it for use for applying the blacking. The backs and handles of the brushes F G are so formed as to t upon each other upon the blacking-box E, and into the cavity of the box O, Where they are kept in place, covered and entirely concealed by the cover D, While the peculiar form of the backs and handles of the brushes F keeps them, and also the blacking-box E, from moving about in the box O.
Having thus described our invention, We claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The box C, made with rounded sides, and open at the top and one end, and the cover D, made with rounded sides and open at one end, in combination with the block or back of the brush A B, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. The brushes F G, having their backs and handles formed to fit upon each other and the blacking-box E, and into the cavity of the box O D, substantially as herein shown and described.
