IMPROVEMENT IN KNIFE-HOLDERS AND GUIERS FOR HEEL-CUTTING MAG-HINES.

'To all whom it may concern.- 4 I, SAMUEL KEEN, 'of- East Bridgewateryin the l county of Blymouth and-State of Massachusetts, have invented a certain new and useful Device for Holding Description of the Accompanying Drawing.

Figure 1 isa perspective'zview o'f my invention. Figure 2 is a cross-section, enlarged.

General Description. My present invention is especially adapted to the machine invented by me for making heels, and patented October 26, 1869, numbered 96,120, and is constructed as follows:

A B represents' the stockoi: handle. C represents the knife, which may be made of plate steel, and is madefast to the stock A by means of the slotj, into which it slips, and t-he -machine-screw S.

' E F is a flange, forminga part of the stock A, and

serves a double purpose, namely," the part F serves as` a gauge to run in the rand and to guide the knife, while the part E serves as a shield to prevent the shavings from covering the rand, andthus allows the operator to see the position ot' the knife.

D is an adjustable wheel, attached to the part E by -the spindle d, as shown, and serves as a guide to run 0n the counter, and to preventthe knife fromcuttn'g too deep.

I claim as my inventioln- 1. The combination of the knit'eC'and the double i angevE F, substantially as described and for the purpose set forth.

2. The combination and arrangement of the knife C, the double flange E F, and theguide D, substantally as described and for thepurpose set forth.
