ANDREW GERMAN, OF SUMNER, WASHINGTON.
NON-REFILLABLE BOTTLE.
' able bottle and consists in the construction,
combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
The object of my invention is to provide a bottle of improved and novel construction which can not be filled excepting from the bottom and can not be refilled except by leaving evidence of such fact, and, hence, is proof against being fraudulently refilled.
In the accompanying drawing :-Figure 1 is a vertical central. sectional. view of a nonrefillable bottle constructed. in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a detail sectional view of the same on a plane at right angles to that of Fig. 1 and showing a portion of the bottom of the bottle. Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view of the upper portion of the bottle after the integral stopper cap has been broken off.
My improved bottle 1 may be blown or molded in the usual way and is preferably made of glass. In accordance with my invention, the mouth and neck of the bottle are formed around the stopper 2 so that the mouth 3 of the bottle is formed or provided with an integral cap 4 which extends around and also extends over and across the outer end of the stopper so that in the manufacture of the bottle the stopper is com pletely embedded in the mouth thereof and within the cap. The wall of the cap is formed at the point where it joins the mouth of the bottle with an exterior annular groove 5, whereby the wall of the cap is weakened at the point 6 and, hence, the cap is made frangible at that point and may be readily broken off, as shown in Fig. 3, so as to expose the outer portion of the stopper when the contents of the bottle are to be used.
Any suitable method within the skill of glass workers may be employed for forming the mouth and neck of the bottle around the stopper. For instance, the cap may be formed separately from the bottle and then fused thereto and united integrally therewith after the stopper has been inserted.
The bottom 7 of the bottle is bell-shaped Specification of Letters Patent.

and in accordance with my invention is formed with an opening in one side leading into the interior of the bottle, there being a channel. 9 in the under side of the central portion of the bottom and which communicates with and forms the inlet for the opening 8. This channel is formed with overhanging walls 10 which, in the form of the invention here shown, are indicated as converging downwardly.
The bottle is filled from the bottom through the channel 9 and opening 8, the stopper being, as hereinbefore stated, longitudinally and permanently embedded in the mouth and neck of the bottle. After the bottle has been filled the channel 9 is then filled with some suitable plastic material such as cement to form a plug 11 which permanently closes the inlet channel and after it is l'iardened cannot be removed without betraying the fact, thus preventing the bottle from being surreptitiously refilled. In practice, a seal indicated at 12 can also be employed which may be fastened on the bottom over the said plug.
Owing to the location of the channel 9 in the underside of the central portion of the bell bottom, and the provision of the opening 3 which extends through one side of the bell bottom, there is a shoulder formed in the channel and at the outer end of the opening 8, which shoulder forms a stop for the cement filling and causes the cement filling to become compacted at said shoulder and enables the use of a cork in the opening 8 to be dispensed with.
In order to use the contents of the bottle, the integral cap must first be knocked oit' as in Fig. 3 so as to expose the outer portion of the stopper, and the stopper may be then withdrawn in the usual manner and the contents of the bottle poured out. The breaking off of the frangible cap also indicates that the bottle has been used and, hence, it cannot be refilled, without giving evidence of such fact.
While I have herein shown and described a preferred form of my invention, 1 would have it understood that changes may be made in the form, proportion and construction of the several parts without departing from the spirit of my invention and within the scope of the appended claim.
A bottle having a bell bottom and a channel arranged transversely in the lower side of the bell bottom and having overhanging shoulder at the outer end of the filling open- Walls, the bell bottom being further proing held in place by the overhanging vided With a tubular portion projecting I Walls of the channel. r
from the inner end of the channel through In testimony whereof I affix my signature Ione 1side1 of thle blegll1 bottom and? into the in presence of two witnesses.
