UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ERNST A. EIBAND, OF NEW BRAUNFELS, TEXAS.
BUTTER-CONTAINER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
' Patented Aug. 12,1913.
Application filed July 29, 1912, Serial No. 712,111. Renewed March 6, 1913. Serial No. 752,467.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERNST A. EIBAND, a citigen of tlie United States, residing at New Braunfels, in the county 01' Comal, State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Butter-Containers;
and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention is directed to improvements in butter containers, and has for its object to provide a device of this character in which butter may be placed in the" dairy and will thus be protected againsthandling until it is desired to serve the same upon the table.
view through the same. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view. Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of one of the ends removed from the container. Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a bottom, and 2 a top, said top and bottom being connected by the sides 3, the ends of which project slightly beyoild the ends of the sides,.and are provided with vertical grooves 1 forslidably receiving flanges5 formed upon the side edges of the removable ends 6. The ends 6 are each kerfed as at 7 said kerf extending nearly the whole width of-the ends. The ends are further provided with-registered circular apertures 8.
Adapted to be placed in the kerf 7 is a that any other material may be substituted therefor if desired.
From the foregoing description, 1t w1ll be seen that a container of this character has been produced upon which the date the butter was made may be stamped, without danger of the ink soaking through to the butter which frequently occurs when paper cartons are used. Further it will be noted that by making the container from wood the same may be conveniently cleaned by dipping the same in salt water, and that they maybe constructed at a minimum cost, and in sizes.
to suit all occasions What is claimed is In a device of the class describedcomprising a top and bottom, side and end walls connecting the same, said side walls having their ends projected beyond the ends of the top and bottom, vertical grooves formed in the extended ends of the sides for slidably receiving the end sections, said end sections having kerfs formed therein, apertures formed in the ends, and arranged in registry with. each other and wire screens detachably mounted in said kerfs, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature, in presence of two. witnesses.
