PLOW-STOCK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 5, 1913.
Application filed August 14, 1912. Serial No. 715,104.
justing mechanism whereby the relative position of the standard and beam may be changed as required, and the invent-ion has for one of its objects to improve the construction and increase the efficiency and utility of devices of this character.
The improved device may be employed with either turning or shovel plows, and it is not desired to limit the invention in this respect, but for the purpose of illustration, the improved device is shown applied to an ordinary shovel plow structure, and in the drawings employed to illustrate the preferred embodiment of t-he invention: Figure 1 is a side elevation, partly in section, of the improved device; Fig. 2 is a detached perspective view of the beam of the improved plow; Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the improved standard.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the accompanying drawings by the same reference characters.
The beam of the improved plow is of ordinary form, as represented at 10, and provided with a clevis 12 at its forward end. At its rear end the beam is provided with a plurality of ratchet teeth 13 and with a depending portion, preferably connected to the beam at spaced intervals and forming a somewhat triangular shaped member depending for a considerable distance below the beam. The handles 15 of the improved plow are attached to the rear member of the depending portion 14k by bolts 16 or other suitable fastening devices. Pivoted at 17 to the beam 10 is a two-part standard represented as a whole at 18, the two parts of t-he standard bearing at opposite sides of the beam and of the forward portion of the depending portion let, as shown. The side members of the standard are thus operative on opposite sides of the beam projection as will be obvious.
particularly to the beamv and with special referencej to a novel construction of beam and the ad-,f
Pivoted at 19 to the lower member'of the -projecting lportion let ofthe beam is a twoypart lever 20, the two parts `ofthe lever thus extending on opposite sides of the portion 'la andthe body of the -beam 10. A link 2l is apivot-ed at one end between Athe sides of ithe' standard 18 and` at the other end be- .tweenwt'he sid-es of the lever 20 as shown. Extending between the sides of the lever 20 above the beam 13 is a pawl 22 having Aa ,plurality of teeth 23 for engagement with the teeth 13. The
pawl is pivoted at 24 intermediate its ends between the sides of the lever 20 in position to be engaged with the teeth 13 when in one position. Projecting from the lever 20 is an arm 25, and aA spring 26 is connected at one end to the arm and at the other end to the pawl as shown. Pivoted at 27 to the lever 2O is a small hand lever 28 extending to a position convenient to the grip portion of the lever and coupled by a rod 29 to the opposite end of the pawl. By this means when the hand lever 28 is depressed toward the grip portion of the lever, the pawl will be released from the notches 13 against the resistance of the spring 26, and thus permit the standard 18 to be adjusted relative to the beam within the range of the movementI of the lever, and then when the lever is released, the spring 26 will automatically return the pawl to position in engagement with the teeth and thus lock the standard in position. By this means, the standard may be adjusted to any required extent and locked in adjusted position. By this means, the nose of the share of the mold-board may be adjusted vertically and the inclination or slope of the mold-board correspondingly adjusted to adapt the plow to its work.
The improved device is simple in construction, can be inexpensively manufactured, and applied to plows of varying sizes and to plows employed for various kinds and conditions of soil.
Having described my invention, what is claimed is:
l. In a plow, a beam having depending portions at the rear, handles connected to the rear of the depending beam portion, a standard including spaced sides pivoted to the beam and bearing by said spaced sides against the opposite sides of the forward member of the depending beam portion, and means for adjusting the free end of said standard upon its pivot.

2. In a plow, a beam having depending portions at the rear, handles vconnected to the rear of' the depending beam portion, a standard including spaced sides and pivoted to the beam and bearing by said spaced sides against the opposite sides of the forward member of the depending beam pon tion, a two-part lever bearing upon opposite sides of the beam and pivoted to the depending portion of the same, a link pivoted between the parts of the lever and between the sides of the beam, and means for locking said lever to the beam.
3. In a plow, a beam having a segmental rear portion provided with ratchet teeth and a depending portion, handles connected to the rearward depending beam portion, a
standard including spaced sides and pivoted to the beam and bearing by said spaced sides against the opposite sides of the forward member of the depending beam portion, a two-part lever bearing upon opposite sides ofthe beam and pivoted to the depending portion of the saine, a link coupling the lever and standard, a spring controlled pawl pivoted between the parte ol the hair die and adapted to engage the teeth of the beam, and means for releasing said pawl.
In testimony whereof l aliiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
