IMPROVEMENT IN THE CONSTRUCTION OFBRUSHES.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, J OHN MARCHBANK, of Lan*- singburg, in the county of Rensselaer and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improrernents in the Construction of Ferrnles for Paint- Brushes, 85e.; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a partvofv this specification.

My present invention is intended as an improvement upon the paint-brush patented by me November 20, 1866; and

It consists inl the construction of a coiled wire-ferrule, made iu the shape of a keg or barrel soldered or cemented together into one piece; and also in the -manner of fastening the handle and bristles in said ferrule. In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side view of my brush, and

Figure 2 is a section f the ferrule, showing the manneriu which the handle and bristles are inserted.

A represents the ferrule, made in keg or barrelform, of coiled wire, any desired size, and then soldered or cemented together, so as to make, as it were, one piece.

The bristles C are inserted for a suitable distance into the ferrule, and liquid glue is poured in.

rllhe end ofthe handle B, which is made in the form of a round wedge, as shown in tig. 2, is then driven into the other end of the fel-rule, which spreads and wedges the inner ends of the bristles at the same time as it rmly secures the handle in place.

In my former patent,above referred to, the center ofthe ferrnle was left open, which necessitateda resoldering after the handle and bristles had beeninsei-ted, which delay, expense, and inconvenience are entirely obriated in my present invention.

' A ferrule formed in this manner may be used on a variety ot' brushes, and hence I do not conne myself in the use thereof to paint-brushes alone.
