NECKTIE-HOLDER.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, DIONISIO LAMAS AL- MANSA, a citizen of the Republic of Cuba, residing at Nuevitas, in the State of Ca magiiey and Republic of Cuba, have in vented new and useful Improvements in Necktie-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved necktie holder for keeping a necktie in shape, for protecting the tie and forming an ornament therefor and also for connecting the tie to the front collar button, thus preventing the tie from slipping in the collar and also incidentally preventing the collar from becoming detached from the collar button, the invention consisting in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing:Figure 1 is a front elevation of a necktie holder constructed in accordance with my invention, showing the same in use on a tie. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same on the plane indicated by the line aa of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view of the same on the plane indicated by the line Z)b of Fig. 1. Fig. t is a plan of the blank from which the inner member of the tie holder is constructed.
My improved necktie holder comprises an inner member 1 and an outer member 2. In practice, the inner member is formed from a sheet metal blank such as shown in Fig. 4. The inner member comprises a clip plate 3 and a U-shaped tongue 4. The clip plate, which is substantially square with rounded corners, is provided in its under side at its center, with a slot 5 to receive the stem on the front collar button and, hence, adapt the clip plate to be engaged with the head of the collar button. The tongue 4 which is U-shaped, has its rear arm 6 bent clownwardly from the upper side of the clip plate so that the said arm overhangs the clip plate and is arranged on the front side of the central portion thereof and to engage the button head and thereby coact with the clip plate in securing the inner member of the tie holder, to the collar button. This tongue is a spring, the device being made of spring sheet metal, and the outer arm 7 of the tongue is formed at points intermediate its ends with serrated teeth 8 which are bent forwardly from the sides thereof and are adapted to engage the rear side of the tie.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed September 24, 1912.
Patented July 15, 1913. Serial No. 722,088.
The clip plate has its side edges bent forwardly at right angles to form flanges 9 which are provided with openings 10, arranged medially. That portion of the rear arm 6 of the spring tongue at which is coincident with the head of the collar button has an opening 11 through which the button head partly projects, the diameter of the said opening being less than that of the head of the button.
The outer or front member 2 of my improved necktie holder is substantially semitubular in form and is also made of suitable spring metal. The ends of the outer member 2 are narrowed and the said outer member forms in effect a band to pass around the necktie and the ends or arms of the outer member are provided at their inner sides with studs 12 to engage the open ings 10 in the flanges 9, the ends of the outer member being adapted to bear against the said flanges 9, the outer or front member thus holding itself by spring tension in engagement with the inner member. The outer member may be jeweled and ornamented in any suitable manner and forming as it does an open band or ring which passes around the tie and bears against the front side thereof, very greatly improves the appearance of the tie so as to greatly enhance its attractiveness and moreover this outer member forms a shield which protects the tie. The spring tongue 4- 0f the inner member presses the tie against the inner or rear side of the outer member so that the tie is held firmly between the inner and outer members and therefore cannot slip. The teeth 8 which become embedded in the rear side of the tie also materially assist in holding the tie in place.
My improved necktie holder may be readily manufactured at slight cost, is very simple, may be ornamented in any suitable or preferred manner and constitutes an ornamental attachment to a tie, saves time and patience, and also serves to greatly protect and add to the durability of neckties.
While I have herein shown and described a preferred form of my invention, I would have it understood that changes may be made in the form, proportion and construction of the several parts without departing from the spirit of the invention and within the scope of the appended claim.
I claim In a necktie holder of the class described,
the combination of an inner member having with means to engage the openings in the 10 a clip plate provided with a slot in its unflanges of the clip plate.
der side to engage the shank or neck of a In testimony whereof I aifix my signature collar button, and further provided at its in presence of two witnesses.
sides with forwardly extending flanges having openings, and a U-shaped spring tongue DIONISIO LAMAS ALMANSA' on the front side of the said clip plate, and Vitnesses: an outer member comprising a substantially AUG. S. RODRIGUEZ, se1n1-tubu1ar sprlng provlded at 1ts ends JORGE MEDERAS.
