Description

B. U. DYE. COLLAR BUTTON AND NBGKTIB HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED 00T.26, 1912.
Patented July v1, 1913.
j J5 NfL/ZZ4 ,y Inventor Witnesses unirsi) BLOOMFIELD U. DYE, OF ROCKY FORD, COLORADO.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be ity known that I, BLOOMFIELD U. DYE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rocky Ford, in the county of Otero and State of Colorado, have invented a new and useful Collar-Button and Necktie-Holder, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to buttons for collars and has for an object to provide a collar button and necktie holder which is adapted to hold the collar to a shirt and to provide means whereby the necktie is securely held in position at the front of the collar.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made withain the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification Figure 1 is a perspective view showing my improved button and necktie holder in position. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same. Figs. 3 and 4 are enlarged views of my improved fo-rm of button, and Fig. 5 is an enlarged view of the necktie holder.
My improved collar button and necktie holde-r comprises the collar button proper as shown and illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4 and the fastening hoo-k shown in Fig. 5. The collar button comprises a base plate 10 substantially circular in outline and planooonvex in cross section. A broad and thin shank 11 is formed integral with said base plate and has its four sides concaved as shown in Figs. 3 and 4. This shank portion is adapted to receive and retain therein the walls of the collar illust-rated more clearly in Fig. 2.
An enlarged head portion 12 is formed integral with theI said shank 11. This enlarged head is broad and thin in outline and has a wedge-shaped end 13 formed at Specicatonof Letters Patent.

its extreme outer end. A hole 14 is provided in the head portion and is adapted to receive therein the wire loop 15 of the tie fastening hook. The said tie fastening hook comprises a looped portion 17 adapted to be fastenedto the tie either by sewing or other suitable means and has an extension 16 formed integral therewith. The said portion 16 is looped back upon itself to form the downward extending member 15, which member 15 is adapted to fit within the hole 14 to thereby hold thetie securely in position.
In the preferred form of my invention, the collar button proper is made of metal and the tie fastening hook is made from a continuous piece of steel wire. I do not wish however, to limit myself to these materials as it may be readily seen that the button may be made from bone, pearl Vor other suitable material.
By providing my improved collar button with the wedge-like end 13 little o-r no difficulty is experienced in buttoning the collar. 'The flat thin head provides that the button shall enter the button hole with the axis of the aperture in the head substantially vertical. The shank portion is also broad and thin which insures that the button will remain in this position, and the concavity of the wall of the shank portion insures the receiving and holding of the collar in position with respect to the shirt.
Thus it will be seen that I have provided a collar button which will remain in position to receive the fastening hook of the tie, and will retain the collar in position in the absence of said hook, all of which features go to make up a new and useful article.
I-Iaving thus described the construction and advantages of my improved collar but ton and necktie holder, what I claim to be new and original with me is A co-llar button comprising a base plate, a shank extending therefrom and provided with the upper, lower and side walls thereof concaved, a relatively broad thin head portion at the extremity o-f said shank and provided with a wedge-shaped end, the upper, lower and side Walls of the head poras my own, I have hereto aiixed my signa tion beveled to form a double Wedge-shaped ture in the presence of two Witnesses. end, and said broad thin head portion provided With an aperture vextending trans- BLOOMFIELD U DYE versely therethrough and adapted to re- Witnesses: ceive a tie fastening hook therein. JOHN W. YOUNG,
In testimony that I claim the foregoing C. C. COFFMAN.
