Description

H. LEIBHOLZ. SKIRT.
APPLICATION FILED 00T.9, 1912.
1,065,258, Patented June 17, 1913.
INVENTOR 17 8727 lei/M2 02 ATTORNEYS COLUMBIA PLANDGRAPH co. WASHINGTON. I). c.
UNITED SATES HENRY LEIBHOLZ, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SKIRT.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY LmnHoLz, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Skirt, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved skirt or petticoat, arranged to readily fit persons of different waist measure, and to insure proper hang of the garment especially over the hips of the wearer. In order to accomplish the desired result, the waistband is provided with an elastic and the body of the garment is provided with self-adjustable hip portions below the waistband and independent thereof.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming'a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both views.
Figure 1 is a rear elevation of the skirt as applied and partly open; and Fig. 2 is a sectional plan view of the same on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
The body A of the skirt is preferably formed of a non-elastic material, and the waistband B consists of a front non-elastic portion B forming an integral part of the upper front portion of the body A. The. waistband B is also provided with a rear elastic portion B rigidly secured at one end by stitches B or other fastening means to one end of the non-elastic front waistband portion B, and the said rear elastic waist band portion B- is provided at its free end with a hook or loop G adapted to be engaged with a button 0 attached to the other end of the front waistband portion B at the placket D arranged on one side of the body A, as will be readily understood by reference to Fig. 1. The elastic waistband portion B is made adjustable, that is, so that it can be lengthened or shortened to suit different waists, and at the same time the rear waistband portion B is elastic to cause the waistband B to snugly fit the wearers waist. In order to make the elastic waistband portion adjustable use is made of a buckle B slidable on the waistband portion B and to which the terminal of the waistband portion B is secured, with a view Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 8, 1912.
to form a loop slidably engaging the hook Patented Julie 17, 1913. Serial No. 724,686.
or loop C, as plainly indicated in the drawlngs.
The rear portion A of the body A terminates a distance below the rear elastic waistband port-ion B and one side of the rear portion A forms the closing flap for the placket D and this side is provided with a hook E adapted to engage a loop E attached to the body A directly below the button C, as plainly indicated in Fig. 1. Other suitable fastening means may be used for closing the placket. The rear portion A of the body A is provided with elastic hip portions A A formed by fastening elastics F, F to the upper end of the rear body portion A at the time the elastics F are in stretched condition, so that when re leased the portions A A are gathered and rendered sufficiently elastic to fit snugly the hips of the wearer.
From the foregoing it will be seen that by the arrangement described, the elastic hip portions A A are wholly independent of the waistband B and are arranged below the same so that a proper hang of the garment is insured, especially over the hips of the wearer.
The rear portion A of the body A is provided at the top intermediate the elastic hip portions A A with a loop G slidingly engaging the elastic waistband port-ion B so as to support the middle rear portion A from the elastic portion B of the waistband B.
It is understood that when the skirt is worn the elastic waistband portion B is stretched and also the hip portions A A to insure an exceedingly close fit of the skirt at the waist and a proper hang of the same on the wearers body.
In donning the skirt, the fastening devices C, C and E, E are opened to allow of readily placing the skirt in position and then the elastic waistband portion 13 is stretched snugly around the wearers waist and the fastening devices C, O are connected with each other to close the waistband. The fastening devices E, E are next connected with each other to close the placket D, and in doing so the hip port-ions A A are stretched to snugly extend over the hips of the wearer.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A skirt, comprising a body and a waistbody having the upper edge of its rear portion teru'iinatii'ig below the said elastic waistband portion and the said rear body portion having elastic portions independent of the waistband.
2. it skirt, comprising a body having a placket at one side, a waistband having a frontnon-elastic portion and a rear elastic portion. the said front waistband portion being integral with the upper front part. of the body, and the said elastic waistband portion being secured at one end to one end oi the front waistband portion, connecting means for detachably connecting the free end oi? the elastic waistband portion to the other end of the ninrelastic front waistband portion at the placket, the rear upper portion of the said body terminating below the elastic waistband portion and having elastic portions independent of the waistband.
3. A skirt, comprising a body having front and rear portions and a waistband, said waistband having connection with the front portion at the sides of the wearer, said rear portionterminating below the waistband, and having at each side of the center thereof elastic portions, one side of said rear portion forming with the said front portion a placket, and a loose COIII'IGUtlOn between the rear portion and the waistband.
L. A skirt, comprising a body, a waistband for the said body, the rear portion of the body terminating below the \v'tilStllJztlNl, and a loop on the rear body portion slidingly engaging the said rear waistband portion, the said rear body portion being provided at opposite sides of the said loop with elastic portions.
5. A skirt, comprising a body having a, placket at one side, and a waistband having an elastic rear portion, the rear portion of the body terminating below the waistband and having one side forming the closing flap for the placket, the said rear portion having a piece of elastic while in a stretched condition secured to each side of the center thereof to form elastic portions.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
