UNITED STATES PATENT @FFICE.
WILLIAM 0. TATE, OF ASI-ILAND, OREGON.
ELBOW-PROTECTOR.
To all whom/2'1 may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM O. TATE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ashland, in the county of Jackson and State of Oregon, have invented new and useful Improvements in Elbow-Protectors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved elbow protector to protect the elbows of soldiers and marksmen while firing when in a prone position, the invention consisting in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing :Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view of my improved elbow protector. Fig. 2 is a plan of the same with parts removed so as to disclose the interior construction.
In the embodiment of my invention, I provide a cushioning ring 1 which is preferabbly made of soft rubber and is of suit able size. This cushioning ring is vulcanized in the center of arubber cloth holder 2 which is here shown as rectangular in form. This rubber cloth holder extends around the outside of the ring and holds the latter in place. A disk 3 which is preferably made of felted wool is placed in the lower side of the open ing in the cushioning ring. I also provide a pad 4 which is rectangular in plan and is substantially V-shaped in longitudinal section. This pad comprises a lining 5, which is preferably sheep skin with the wool down and a cover 6 which is preferably buck skin. The wool on the sheep skin lining forms a filler for the pad and the edges of the lining are stitched to those of the cover, as at 7. The corners of the rubber cloth holder 2 are Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed June 29, 1912.
Patented June 17, 1913.
Serial No. 706,678.
riveted to the cover, the said rubber cloth holder, together with the cushioning ring and the disk 3 being placed on the center of the cover so that the cushioning ring, with the rubber cloth holder and the disk are inclosed in the pad.
When the deviceis in use, the elbow which is placed in the upper side of the pad, the latter being on the ground, fits in the cushioning ring and, hence, the elbow is effectually cushioned and protected. The protector also serves to effectually protect the arm just above the elbow where the sling of the rifle goes around the arm.
lWiile I have herein shown and described a preferred form of my invention, I would have it understood that changes may be made in the form, proportion and construction of the several parts without departingfrom the spirit of my invention and within the scope of the appended claim.
I claim The herein described elbow protector having downwardly converging sides and a central portion and comprising a pad having a lining, a cover, and a filling between the lining and the cover, a holder of flexible material in the pad at the center thereof and secured at its corners on the cover, a cushioning ring also in the pad and on the center of the holder, and a disk in the lower side of the cushioning ring.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
I/VILLIAM O. TATE. WVitnesses JAMES A. Yno, RUBY PALMER.
