Description

-4 'FRANK WJMARSTON, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
Letters Patent No. 106,381, dated ,Atty-ust 16, 1870.
rMPnovnMENT IN eoRsnT-spnmes.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent an makin'g part 0i the Bami?.
vBe it known that I, FRANK W. MARsToN, of the city of Philadelphia, in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented a` new and improved OorsetSteel; and. Ido hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description' thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and n se my invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawing whichforms a part ot' this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a perspectiveV view of my improved corset-steel; a
Figure 2, a longitudinal section thereof;-
Figure 3, a longitudinal section of the same with the band removed, show ing the actionv of the plates when the steel is bent; and
Figure 4, alongitudinal section of the steel when constructed with only three clasps.
My improved corset-steel consists. of an4 outer plate, A, forming an auxiliary spring, and of two inner plates B B, which compose the main spring.
These inner plates may be of equal or unequal lengths, indiiferently, and each of them is'rigidly fast-4' baud, E, s et down betweenjthem, so as to be held in' its place,as shown E', iig. 2,-or by any equivalent mode of rigidly'il-stening each of the lower plates4 to the upper plate at only one point.
It is evident fromV the foregoing description that, when the steel is bent, both ends ot' the plate A are free to slide on the plates B B, and that the inner ends of the plates B B are free to recede from each other, and are, at the same time, restrained from projecting inward bythe band or its equivalent.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Pat` ent of the United States, is- A A corset-steel, whose main springr is. constructed in two parts, which are placed end to end, and each rigidly fastened to an ou'ter auxliaryspring nearits ends, the inner enflsof said main spring being confined wit-hinl a hand or equivalent device.
, FRANK W. MABSTON'.
