Be it known that I, GEORGE IV. DAVIS, a

citizen of the United States, residing atY ,form a part of this application.

This invention relates to improvements in spring actuated curtain rollers, the object of the invention being to produce a simplified and more effective structure for holding the spring in position and at the same time to produce a more perfect catch lock for the roller than those now commonly in use.

A further object of the invention is to produce a structure which will cover the above objects and at the same time have but very few and uncomplicated parts.

A further object of the invention is to produce a simple and inexpensive device and yet one which will be exceedingly eective for the purposes for which it is designed.

These objects I accomplish by means of such structure and relative arrangement of the parts as will fully appear by a perusal of the following specification and claim.

In the drawings similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.

Figure l is an end view of the curtain roller with the ferrule removed showing the curtain in position thereon. Fig. 2 is a detached view in section showing the spring retaining means and the catch means. Fig. 3 is an end view of a retaining catch. Fig. 4 is a side view of a spring retaining member. Fig. 5 is an end view of the same. Fig. 6 is a side view of a retaining pin housing and roller pin.

Referring now more particularly to the characters of reference on the drawings the numeral l designates the curtain, and 2 designates the outer roller or housing which incloses the mechanism of the roller and to which the curtain l is attached.

The numeral 3 designates the central rod to which the end pin 3 is connected, such Specification of Letters Patent.

end pin having'an outer square shoulder 4 adapted to engage the usual hooks or hang'- ers used to hold the roller. @ver the end of the member 2 is a ferrule 2a to hold the parts inclosed and strengthen the same. In applying my improved structure I rst provide a collar 5 provided with projecting lips 6 adapted to it closely in the end of the roller 2 and to be secured there by any suitable securing means. Said collar 5 is provided with inner shoulders 7 adapted to form catches, there being eccentric curved portions 8 leading thereto. 0n the member 3a is a round shoulder 9 provided with a transverse orifice 10. This shoulder 9 is adapted to extend within the periphery of the member 5 and a pin l1 is adapted to project into the orifice l0 and be slidable therein and adapted to project out of the same and engage one of the catches 7 to maintain the tension of the roller spring l2. This spring l2 is secured at its inner end to the member 3 and is disposed within the member 2 and around the member 3a and is fixed securely to the member 5 by means of a washer 13 mounted over the member 3 and holding' one coil of the spring l2 securely against the member 5, such member I3 being' fixed in position by means of projecting finger members 14 which project over the periphery of the member 5 and are bent over the outer end of said member as at As will be readily seen by holding the pin 3a stationary in the usual manner and turning the roller 2, the spring 12 will be given the required tension, which tension will be maintained when the roller is in position in the hangers by means of the pin ll engaging one of the shoulders 7 and when the curtain l is unrolled this pin readily passes back into the orifice 10 by rising over the eccentric curved portions S as will appear. llVhen t-his occurs the pin 1l will ride over the shoulders 7 to wind up the curtain.

From the foregoing description it will be readily seen that I have produced such a device as substantially fulls the objects of the invention as set forth herein.

While this specification sets forth in detail the present and preferred construction of the device, still in practice such deviations from such detail may be resorted to as do not form a departure from the spirit of the invent-ion.

Having thus described my invention what claim as new and useful and desire to secure by Letters Patent is tm A device of the character described oomprising` a rod, a roller disposed around seid rod, n collar projected into the end of said roller, said collar being` provided With inner catches, a pin projecting into the end of seid rod, e collar on said pin, said collar being provided with a transverse recess7 a pin movable in said recess and adapted to engage seid catches7 e Washer mounted between the Collar on said first named pin and said rod, projecting finger members on said Washer adapted to engage said first named collar, a springdisposed around said rod, one coil of said spring being interposed between said Washer end the coller on said first named pin, as described.
