Abstract

The purpose of the present invention is to provide an IPS mode liquid crystal display device having simple structure and excellent in display quality and improved viewing angle. The liquid crystal display device is characterized in that it comprises a laminated polarizing plate obtained by cutting a given size of a long laminate formed from the successive lamination of a first polarizing film and a first optical anisotropic layer in their long stripe state, a first substrate, a liquid crystal layer and a second substrate in this order disposed, wherein the absorption axis of the first polarizing film is substantially perpendicular to the slow axis of the first optical anisotropic layer, the liquid crystal molecules of the liquid crystal layer during black display are aligned substantially parallel to surface of a pair of the above substrates, and the slow axis of the first optical anisotropic layer is substantially parallel to the slow axis of the first optical anisotropic layer.
