Abstract

Process for recovering iron from iron ores and from wastes from the production of iron and steel. 30 to 90 parts by weight of the materials to be recovered are granulated and mixed with 10 to 40 parts by weight of an organic substance acting as a reducing agent after pyrolysis and capable of forming a coating on the surface of the particles containing iron oxides and optionally with 2 to 15 parts by weight of a carbon-containing material, and the resulting material is charged into a furnace or directly into a converter in which its iron oxide content is reduced to metallic iron at 800-1000 DEG C. Economical process for iron recovery.
