An ammunition holder comprises a plurality of compartments which receive a cartridge belt 57 in the form of loops and which are formed by the outer walls of the holder and a plurality of fixed walls 8. Each wall 8 is provided at its upper end with a pivotally mounted plate 34 and in turn each plate 34 is provided with a pivotally mounted flap 40. During the feeding of the cartridge belt and following the emptying of a compartment, the flap 40 of that compartment is raised as by spring loading (spring 51) and forms a guide surface for the belt 57. In the construction shown the plate 34 is also provided at its upper end with a pivotally mounted belt guide member 42 having an inclined forward face 52 for co-operation with a rearward face 43 of an adjacent guide member 42 during opening and closing the associated compartment. The plate 34 is loaded by a torsion bar spring (Fig. 2, not shown) against the action of which the plate may be manually pivoted, in which pivoted position (centre of Fig. 3) the plate is held by a locking mechanism comprising a recess 31 in a flange 19 which indirectly engages the plate and a plate 10 of the wall 8. The locking mechanism is released manually to return the plate to its initial position, the manual pivoting being carried out for ammunition holder loading purposes. The plate 34 is provided with a guide plate 37 on its rearward facing side. A face of the ammunition holder is provided with removable doors (Fig. 2, not shown) to facilitate loading.
