Abstract

1340973 Locks EASTERN CO 11 Jan 1972 [19 Feb 1971] 1254/72 Heading E2A A lock comprises a sheet metal mounting member D provided with a forwardly opening recess R, a spring biassed bolt 14 of, for example, glass-filed nylon, slidably supported by the mounting member so that part of the bolt F normally projects from one side of the mounting member and a handle H pivotally connected to the mounting member adjacent the side from which the bolt normally projects. The handle H is of sheet metal and generally planar the arrangement being such that the forward surfaces of the handle H and mounting member D are substantially flush with each other in the rest position of the handle. A metal trigger member T is operatively connected to the handle H and comprises a blade part 86 which projects through a slot 10 formed in the base of the recess R and into a slot 14 in the bolt. A member 112 is movably supported adjacent the base of the recess R and has a part 114 movable into the path of movement of the trigger member T, the member 112 being under the control of a cam 104 carried by a key operated lock L so as to be selectively movable into and out of the operational path of movement of the trigger member. In the construction shown both the handle H and the trigger member T are mounted on a pin 76. The slot 14 in the bolt F is elongated so that even if movement of the trigger member T is blocked by the member 112 the bolt F may be retracted into the mounting member D against its spring loading for the purpose of re-latching, in use of the lock, a member to which the lock is applied, e.g. a door B. The handle H substantially conforms to the shape of the periphery part of the recess (Fig. 1, not shown) and is formed with a flange 80 for co-operation with the trigger member T. The arrangement of the lock is such that should a person attempt to force the lock while locked the pin 76 will buckle so as to jam the mechanism.
