Abstract

A shaft furnace wall has an outer armour (20) of gas-tightly welded steel plates (28) and an inner fireproof lining (26). At least a few of the steel plates (28) of the armour (20) have internal cooling circuits (40'), so that these steel plates (28) at the same time form the armour (20) and ensure the cooling of the furnace wall. These armour-cooling plates (28) are advantageously formed from forged or rolled steel plates, the internal cooling circuits being formed by bored cooling channels (40').<IMAGE>
