Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent the carbonization reaction and to improve the operating efficiency and the material unit in the liquid-phase chlorination of paraffin, by carrying out the reaction in the presence of a product obtained by the alkylation reaction of an aryl compound with chlorinated paraffin using an aluminum chloride complex catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: The chlorination of molten paraffin with chlorine, is carried out in the presence of (A) an alkylbenzene, a polycyclic alkylate, and other high-boiling fraction separated from a reaction product obtained by alkylating an aryl compound with a chlorinated paraffin using an aluminum chloride complex catalyst, (B) a hydrocarbon fraction obtained by the hydrolysis of used complex catalyst, or (C) a mixture of the above components. The amount of the components to be added is preferably selected to give the value of the formula of ≥2, especially between 4 and 40.
