Abstract

Material is cast using a continuous casting machine having a reduced height and a virtually horizontal oxillatory crystalliser, with an immersed teeming nozzle feeding melt into the crystalliser below the meniscus line whilst a pressure is maintained within the nozzle feed tube at a higher value than outside the nozzle, correlated with the pressure surrounding the nozzle, and also acting on the meniscus of the melt in the crystallizer, thus preventing gas migration from the outside to the inside of the nozzle, whilst allowing passage of gases from the melt through the nozzle. Appts. comprises low height horizontal continuous casting machine, having a teeming nozzle, a crystallizer, flow regulator through the teeming nozzle, and pressure regulation from the nozzle internal tube to the nozzle exterior.
