Abstract
1372925 Injection blow moulding METAL BOX CO Ltd 14 Dec 1972 [12 Jan 1972] 1465/72 Heading B5A Articles are injection blow moulded in an apparatus (Figs. 15, 19) comprising a turret 1 having at least one core 4, 5 extending from each of two mutually perpendicular faces and being angularly reciprocable through 90 degrees for alternate engagement of the cores with an injecton mould 7 by movement of the turret to and from the injection mould, and a blow mould 9, 10 on each side of the turret 1 movable to and from the turret to engage whichever core 5 is not engaged with the injection mould, for blow moulding the parison 8 previously injection moulded on to that core while the next parison is injection moulded on to the other core 4. Thermoplastics material is injected by a piston from a chamber 13, Fig. 2, previously filled by a screw in tube 12. The turret 1 is rotated by rams 24, 25 (Fig. 4, not shown) and mounted in a carriage 15, Fig. 5, sliding on guide rods 16. Carriage 15 is connected by a flexible coupling 18 to a clamping member 19 operated by an electrically driven plunger 20. The clamping member has a concave face 22 bearing against a complementary face 23 of the turret 1 to permit turret rotation. Blow moulds 9, 10 are attached to plates 38, 39 pivoted at their lower ends to mould carriages 28, 29 movable on guide rails 30, 31 by rams 32, 33. Rams 34, 35 hold the moulds against the turret during moulding and afterwards rotate the moulds against springs (41) to face downwardly for ejection on to a delivery conveyer. The cores have passages through which compressed air is blown for blow moulding and suction is applied for removing the parisons 8 from the injection mould 7, and passage for heating oil and cooling water. Suction is applied through blow moulds 9, 10 to remove the finished article from cores 4, 5.
