Abstract

1,114,304. Blow moulding hollow article with thickened wall portions. AMERICAN CAN CO. 4 June, 1965 [12 June, 1964], No. 24025/68. Heading B5A. A thermoplastic parison is formed on a hollow core rod, introduced into a mould and inflated to form a hollow article, the parison having thickened wall zones at locations which correspond to the parting surfaces of the mould. Three grooved hollow core rods 12 are mounted on a rotatable turret 10. At station A mould sections 13 are closed around the core rod and thermoplastic material is injected into the moulding cavity to form a tubular parison having ribs 24 formed in the grooves 23 of the core rod, at positions corresponding to the parting lines of the mould sections. At station B the parison is isolated between mould halves 18 by air pressure entering the parison from the bore of the core rod from a source (not shown). The hollow article so formed has thickened ribs 24. At station C the finished article is ejected by blowing or by mechanical stripping.
