Abstract

An aqueous solution of 3-amino-2-oxazolidone hydrochloride is prepared by reducing an aqueous solution of 3-nitroso-2-oxazolidone with zinc and hydrochloric acid at a temperature not above 15 DEG C., the zinc being added in excess in one batch. The starting material solution may be prepared by nitrosating b -hydroxyethyl urea, heating a solution of the N - nitroso - N - (b - hydroxyethyl) - urea formed and nitrosating the resulting 2-oxazolidone in aqueous solution.
