Abstract
984,533. Refractory bricks for furnaces. DIDIER-WERKE A.G. Sept. 29, 1961 [Sept. 29, 1960], No. 35298/61. Heading F4B. A magnesite refractory brick 2 and a chromemagnesite brick 1 are enclosed by a metal jacket 4 and separated by an insert plate 5 with a hood at its upper end and rectangular projections 6 engaging the bricks. Instead of the projections 6, the plate 5 may be formed with bent-out lugs 7, 8, Fig. 4, or a bar 10, Fig. 5, running transversely of the plate 5. The hood may be replaced by an upstanding apertured tab. In another embodiment, a projection on one brick may extend through a hole in the insert plate to engage a recess in the other brick. The metal insert plate may be omitted, the bricks having recesses engaging a hanger bar 13 accessible through tapered holes 14, Fig. 8, or the bricks may have cooperating dovetails, Fig. 10, or grooves and ridges, Fig. 12. Each brick may be of square section, of equal thickness, or the relative transverse dimensions may be proportioned according to the expansion and contraction of the bricks. The composition and grain size of the bricks is closer to give the desired relative expansion and contraction.
