Abstract
957,286. Refractory walls. M. H. DETRICK CO. April 4, 1963 [April 25, 1962], No. 13375/63. Heading F4B. A thick, monolithic furnace wall, e.g. for a soaking pit, comprises beams 16 with an associated sheet metal casing 17, a plurality of anchor units 25 secured thereto and each including a pair of tiles 30, 31 having interengaging ribs and recesses, and a mass of refractory material 10 tamped into position around the tiles so that its front face 11 coincides with the front face 38 of each tile 31. Each pair of tiles is attached to the casing by an angle member 26 welded thereto and carrying a hook rod 27 and a retainer 28 having inturned fingers engaging the tile. A layer of insulation 20 is disposed between the refractory mass 10 and the casing 17 and a further layer of firebrick insulation may be disposed in front of the insulation 20, Fig. 1 (not shown).
