[Also in Divisions B8 and E1] A fettling apparatus for repairing furnaces comprises a hopper 10 for refractory material with a delivery shoot 11 controlled by a gate 12 feeding material to a thrower 15 rotatably mounted below the hopper and having a throwing wheel 19 delivering material to a duct 32 extending through a casing enclosing the thrower and movable with it. The apparatus has legs 34 so that it can rest on a stand 35 with the thrower clear of the floor when it is not suspended within a furnace by a loop 13<SP>1</SP>. A tubular structure 13 within the hopper 10 encloses an hydraulic motor and gearing driving a hollow coaxial shaft 14 carrying the thrower assembly 15. The tube 13 also houses a separate motor driving a third coaxial shaft 20 carrying the thrower wheel 19, Fig. 3. The thrower 15 has a double-walled casing 21, 22 with an additional shield 23 at its lower part. The thrower wheel 19 has a lower disc 25 spaced from an upper annular wheel 26 by radial vanes 27, and a belt 30 engages the flanged rims 28, 29 of the discs 25, 26 except for a part co-operating with delivery duct 32. A guide 33 directs material from the shoot 11 and gate 12 to the throwing wheel substantially diametrically opposite the discharge duct. The gate 12, and the motors moving the thrower assembly 15 and driving the throwing wheel 19 are controlled through a remote power unit from a push button control panel having a flexible cable so that an operator may observe the repair operation and control it. The apparatus may be driven by pneumatic or electric motors.
