Abstract

977,636. Shredding and disintegrating machines. G. EIBEN, T. HALMI, and J. THEIBSZ. Oct. 2, 1961 [Oct. 5, 1960], No. 35533/61. Heading B2A. In a grain shredding and disintegrating machine having celled grain pick-up means and slicing knives co-operable therewith to slice grains therein, the cells of the pick-up means communicate through bottom passages therein with a chamber to which vacuum can be applied to hold the grains in the cells. As shown in Fig. 1, a rotary feed drum 4 receives grains from a hopper 19 and supplies them to a rotary drum 1 which comprises spaced annular discs 3 having cells 32 which communicate through passages 29 to chambers 2 connected to a common suction pipe. The grains are evenly distributed in the cells by means of a rotary brush 5. The grains held in the cells are sliced by means of circular knives 30 mounted groupwise in magazines 7 each supported by an arm 9 which strikes against a cushion 10 under adjustable pneumatic pressure. The knives are associated with scraper means 8 and with scraper means comprising rings mounted on spacers between the knives. Shredded grains jammed between the knives are ejected by the scraper means and received in a shoot 14. After the drum 1 passes the knives, the suction effect is interrupted and the sliced grains pass into a shoot 15. A stone collector 47 leads to a shoot 31. Sliced and shredded grains from the shoots 14, 15 pass into a disintegrator 16 which comprises hurling wheels 38, Fig. 6, co-operable with crusher plates 41 mounted on a ring 42 so as to be axially and angularly adjustable. Each wheel 38 has radial channels 45, Fig. 7, each having a cross-section formed by a pair of curved sections 46, Fig. 8, which act to sort the grains. Air is supplied axially to the wheels 38 and disintegrated grains pass through outlets 17, 18. In a modification, Fig. 9, the grain pick-up cells are provided on the surface of a belt 51 above which is a vibratory plate 53 which together with brush 5 serves for evenly distributing the grains in the cells. The knives 30 are flanked by sharpening rollers 56, the knives and rollers being mounted on an angularly displaceable arm 57. A nozzle 58 removes sliced grain particles from between the knives.
