In a wire-drawing machine having a plurality of power driven rotatable drawing blocks, and a die assembly between each pair of blocks, means for guiding the wire from each block to the next die comprise a pair of fixed idler guide pulleys rotatable on a common vertical axis in an upper and a lower plane, and means for directing the wire from the upper plane to the lower plane. The machine includes a base 10, drawing blocks 12 and 14, each driven independently and wire guiding and loop forming assemblies 16 and 18. The assembly 18 comprises two idler guide pulleys 20 and 24 and a third guide pulley 22, mounted on a support 27 which slides in a track 28. An hydraulic cylinder 34 is fed with fluid at constant pressure and tends to move the pulley 22 away from the pulleys 20 and 24. Wire from the block 12 passes over the pulley 20, round the pulley 22 to the pulley 24 and through a die assembly 32 to the block 14. The speed of the motor driving the block 14 is continuously corrected by a variable resistor connected to a rack-andpinion mechanism associated with the cylinder 34, so that as the wire loop lengthens the motor speed is increased and vice versa. The die holder assembly includes a die-box 54 mounted on a vertical axis 56 and locked in any desired position by a nut 80 positioned between lugs 82 on a base member 74. The nut runs on a shaft 76 pivoted to the die-box. A similar arrangement comprising a nut 68 co-operating with lugs 66 on the die-box allows pivoting of the box in a vertical plane about a horizontal axis in the same vertical plane as the axis 56. The die holder assembly also includes a wirestraightening device comprising a guide roller 86 mounted on a bracket 84 and a roller 92 mounted on a pivoted plate 88, which is adjustably spring-biased to press against the wire. A cam 104 mounted on a lever 102 enables the roller 92 to be swung out for threading up the machine and then returned to a previously adjusted position.
