Abstract
An antiperspirant preparation contains, neomycin and aluminium chlorhydroxide complex, aluminium chlorhydroxy ethylate complex, or sodium aluminium chlorhydroxy lactate complex, and a non-toxic carrier suitable for topical use. The aluminium chlorhydroxide complex is the preferred compound and has in aqueous solution the empirical formula of Al2(OH)6Cl. The aluminium chlorhydroxy ethylate complex has the formula Al3Cl2 (OH)2(OC2H5)5. The term neomycin includes the mixture of neomycin B and C or the separate components and their salts such as the sulphate, hydrochloride, laurate, myristate; palmitate and mixed fatty acid salts. The neomycin constitutes 0.2 to 2.0% of the preparation and the aluminium chlorhydroxide complex 10 to 50% of the preparation. The preparation is obtained in the form of ointments, lotions, aerosols, aqueous solutions, creams (oil in water type), pulverulent mixtures and gelled sticks. Optional additives are (a) perfumes, (b) essential oils, (e) surfactants, e.g. polysorbate 80 U.S.P., polyoxyethylene sorbitan trioleate, sodium lauryl sulphate, and sodium cetyl sulphate, (d) emulsifiers, e.g. glyceryl monostearate, diethylaminoethyl alkyl amide phosphate, isopropyl myristate, cetyl alcohol, glyceryl and glycol esters of stearic acid and polyoxyethylene stearate, (e) alcohols, e.g. ethanol, isopropanol, stearyl alcohol; glycols, e.g. propylene, glycol, glycerol, sorbitol and other polyglycols, (f) ointment bases, e.g. spermaceti, carbowaxes, beeswax; higher fatty acids, e.g. palmitic acid and stearic acid, (g) propellants, e.g. halogenated hydrocarbons, carbon dioxide and nitrogen, (h) silicone type fluids, e.g. polysiloxane fluid, (i) solid diluents, e.g. talc, calcium carbonate, starch and magnesium aluminium silicate, and (i) preservatives, e.g. methyl, propyl and butyl p-hydroxy benzoate.
