Abstract

887,900. Paper containing synthetic polymers &c. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODAFABRIK A.G. March 11, 1960 [March 14, 1959; March 17, 1959 (2)], No. 8619/60. Class 96. [Also in Groups IV (a) and IV (b)] The properties of paper, e.g. wet and dry strengths, stiffness, greaseproofness and dispersion of the filler, are improved by adding to the paper pulp a. water-soluble quaternary ammonium copolymer made by copolymerizing one or more ethylenically-unsaturated monomers with the quaternized condensation product of acrylamide or methacrylamide with formaldehyde and a secondary amine (see Group IV (a)). The addition of such copolymers to paper pulps is described in Examples 23 to 27.
