879,303. Agitating pulverulent materials: mixing powders and gases. ACIERIES REUNIES DE BURBACK-EICH-DUDELANGE S. A. July 13 1960 [July 13, 1959], No. 24420/60. Class 86 [Also in Groups XXVIII and XXX] An apparatus for putting pulverulent material into suspension in a gaseous carrier comprises a storage bin 4 discharging through a metering pocket wheel 7 on to a porous plate 15 placed in the induction passage 23 of a Venturi 14. Carrier gas is supplied to the inlet 22 of the Venturi from a main 1, a branch 17 from which supplies the porous plates 15, 24, the perforated pipework grills 9, 11 and the nozzles 10, 16. The valves 3, 19 are adjusted so that the pressure at the porous plates &c., is slightly above that at the inlet of the Venturi and the powder in the bin is maintained in a fluidized state; there is an escape duct 5 to releive excess pressure in the bin. The nozzle 16 assists induction and prevents the accumulation of deposits in the Venturi induction passage 23; a valve 18 allows the porous plates to be kept in operation for a short time after the main supply of carrier gas is cut off, to prevent clogging. The apparatus is primarily intended for blowing finely divided . material into molten metal. Specifications 320,391 and 831,583 are referred to.
