842,750. Feeding and collecting slivers. KAMMGARNSPINNEREI KAISER SLAUTERN Oct. 16, 1957 (Oct. 22, 1956], No. 32366/57. Class 120(3). Fibres supplied in sliver form by one machine and fed to a second machine are passed from the first machine to a conveying mechanism which deposits the sliver in long lengths near the inlet side of the second machine, the sliver being fed direct to the second machine from that point. As shown, Fig. 1, slivers 2-7 delivered by the heads of a drawing frame are combined in a channel 8 to form a sliver band 9 which is conveyed by a conveyer belt 14 to containers 10 at the inlet side of the following processing machine. The sliver band is deposited in zig-zag fashion in one of the containers 10 by a pendulum feed unit comprising oscillating conveyer belts 22, Fig. 3, carried by a carriage 15 which is individually driven so as to reciprocate slowly between limit switches on a runway 12. The sliver band is diverted by a obliquelydisposed guide roller 16 on the carriage on to a conveyer belt 17 leading to belts 22. Belts 17, 22 are driven from a roller 24, Fig. 3, engaged by belt 14, so that the delivery speed of the sliver band is adjusted to compensate for relative motion between belt 14 and carriage 15. When one container 15 is filled, the axis of roller 16 is turned through 90 degrees and sliver is fed via a duplicate set of conveyers 17, 22 to an adjacent empty container while sliver is fed from the first container via guide means to the next machine. Instead of having two containers 10 side by side, any desired member may be disposed behind each other and be filled in succession by a single pendulum feed unit. Alternatively, a single feed unit may serve both longitudinally and laterally adjacent containers by using a runway which is itself movable transversely of the direction of travel of carriage 15.
