Abstract
Grain and flour are disinfected by treating them in an enclosed space in the presence of air, nitrogen or carbon dioxide with sulfuryl fluoride vapour, preferably, in the proportion of at least 0,1 pound of sulfuryl flouride per 1000 cubic feet of space or with a composition comprising sulfuryl fluoride and a supplementary fumigant toxicant selected from ethylene bromide, carbon tetrachloride, ethylene chloride, propylene oxide, isopropyl formate, hydrogen cyanide, trichlorobromomethane, acrylonitrile, carbon bisulphide, trichloroethylene, tetrachloroethylene, propylene chloride, methyl bromide, chloropicrin, sulphur dioxide and B, B1-dichloroethyl ether.ALSO:A pesticidal composition comprises sulfuryl fluoride and a supplementary fumigant toxicant selected from the group consisting of ethylene bromide, carbon tetrachloride, ethylene chloride, propylene oxide, isopropyl formate, hydrogen cyanide, trichlorobromomethane, acrylonitrile, carbon bisulfide, trichloroethylene, tetrachloroethylene, propylene chloride, methylbromide, chloropicrin, sulfur dioxide and b ,b 1-dichloroethyl ether. The matter to be disinfected, e.g. grain, is treated in an enclosed space with sulfuryl fluoride vapour, preferably in the proportion of at least 0.1 pound of the fluoride per 1000 cubic feet of space, or with a composition as above. Dried prunes packed in sealed bags are fumigated by dispensing sulfuryl fluoride from a pressure container equipped with a metering valve discharging a measured portion of the toxicant through a needle orifice into each package.
